When selecting the galaxy map, from when you open it, the system starts downloading route-plotting data from servers based on your current ship statistics (weight, cargo, jump range, etc.) working outwards in every direction from your current location.

You can, when zoomed out slightly, see this tree grow incrementally. Fast at first, then slowing down as the volume of space increases and, as a consequence, the number of systems increases exponentially. It will keep going as you watch, mapping out as far as 100 Light Years. But... this could take several minutes in real time, depending on many factors including server-load at the time. It does keep going in the background while you are in system view.

"Economic" will plot the shortest jumps available, while "Fastest" plots the most direct route. The quantity of fuel used depends on the distance of each single jump and the efficiency of your frame-shift-drive. A short jump like 6Ly uses one "unit" of fuel on an Eagle with a higher class FSD, but a longer jump of 8Ly might use twice that amount of fuel - even though the journey is not twice as far. So on longer journeys, or with short-range smaller ships, consider using "Economic" as the better option.

In an upgraded Lakon Type-6 with a 28 Lyr jump range, you can travel 100Lyr in four or five jumps, but you could use 75% of your fuel, yet travel 300Lyr making "Economic" jumps and barely use 20%.

This is why (for small ships especially) a fuel-scoop is a good option to consider if you are galaxy hopping to explore or make rare trades.

So I decided that getting allied with the Pilots Federation at Jameson Memorial Station in Shinrarta Dezhra (Founders World) would be fun.

What I didn't realise is that a mix of missions and trade routes in the area could net a fortune and also get the desired Allied status:

Jameson Memorial has two factions, The Pilots Federation and The Dark Wheel, both democratic law abiding factions.

Nearby systems are ripe for trading: LFT 926 (Industrial goods), Nuenets (mined goods) and Skeggiko O (Has aggri goods)

Quite often there's a delivery mission to LFT 926, so you take some cargo and the trade goods you're give. Also pickup as much ore and food collection missions. Hop from LFT 926 with industrial cargo to Skeggiko O and sell, pick up food for the mission and some other aggri goods and back to Jameson. I was making about t600K a run in my Python.

Have fun!

This is a great post for learning how to gain control of your ship in combat situations but I find just using these as I fly around helps me get the hang of them. Then I forget them in combat!

I need to play more with  the flight assists off so I can do some wicked combat moves:)

I found this today

It is a handy hack, for all of us (esp me) that have larger ships, as the smaller ships are fast and nimble.
So what is it?
It`s how to drop out of super cruise to be in front of the "letterbox", and not be lurking behind the damn station, and wasting (a lot) of time hunting for the letterbox (lol is you see me doing this)

The guy gives the theory, and practical examples of how to do it, i wish i knew this last week!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyqpvtLnYq8

if you want to get right to the point, skip to 2:14, and he shows you how to do it

FYI, Anaconda point of view, so this works!
Very handy information!

Stay safe out there, and jump to the door now!

For the fighters out there, he`s a quick guide on how to make a decent amount of cash killing wanted ships and pirates.

Although the caveat is that its totally random, sometimes you`ll have a pack of cobra`s and eagles, other times pythons, and anaconda`s.... so your bounty income can be quite erratic.http://www.vmrp.tv/elite-dangerous-best-way-to-earn-credits.html

Interdiction and you

For the new pilots our there here is some simple advice, that may keep you alive for longer....

Once the pirate (YHAAR!) has started his interdiction and various insults, throttle back to zero and submit to it; the reason follows...

If you try to escape the interdiction and fail, your frame shift drive incurs a large penalty of roughly 30-40 seconds. This is more than enough time for the pirate(s) to shot your beloved ship our of the void...
However, by submitting to the pirate your frame shift drive only incurs a 10 second cd, which gives you a great advantage, not him (as he has the 30 sec cd).

Scenario is thus:
After dropping out of super cruise, you are BOTH disorientated.

Do the following.
1. Check radar, make sure the enemy is behind you, not to the side or front
2. Put 4 pips to engines
3. BOOST, BOOST, BOOST and get the hell away from him (sometimes them)
4. Engage frame shift asap
5. type suitable insult in chat bar
6. continue to destination

Most important, listen to his advice DONT PANIC!

*All top end cargo slots are temporary, as we have yet to receive any information about the cost of the additional fuel cells, and as such there place holders and cost fillers. We accept no responsibility for deaths out in the void for running out of fuel.

How to explore
Plot your nav course as per usual and jump into a system of your choice. Once here use the fire button for the Advanced Discovery Scanner (you set these in the fire groups, default key no.4), watch the bar go up and BRROOOOM, your ship will discover x objects, if there is anything in the system.
Press no.1 and Nav lock onto one of these objects in your location menu, get close (roughly 3LS) and it`ll “examine it”, this takes about 10 seconds so don’t go too fast and over shoot. After examining it you will get information about what it is (gas giant, rock/ice planet etc).

If it is a planet, slow down and you can now use the fire button for the Detailed Surface Scanner Detailed, use it and wait for it to VROOOM and your done.
Congratulations commander, you have found a rock in space and gathered information for the faction of your choice. Yes, this means you will gain “some” rep with them for selling them your discoveries, and potentially a lot of creds!

So after a few hours on Power Play last night we're a bit confused but getting there I think.

Everyone pledged allegiance to Edmund Mahon who focuses on expansion through trade agreement and financial success.

It was clear that BD+3 2373 our homeworld was proving to be a good hub to find trades and we set about trying to combine high yield trading with power play merit earning.

First of all we hopped to a system that was being Fortified. Fortification requires us to pick up items from the Power Play Contact in a station inside the fortifying system and take these back to Gateway, the homeworld of Mahon.

So then we thought let's prepare Borasetani for Exploitation. To do this we had to pick up 100 trade agreement documents from a fortify or controlled system (not another exploited system like BD+21). And we did it, Borasetani is prepped!

Correction!!!! Wrong - So now can we fortify BD+31? The test this morning is to take exploit merits from Holiacan to BD+31 whilst making 2500k profit a ton! ***

Correction 2 wrong again!
- There is a 15LY Exploit radius around controlled systems so you can only pick up the merit items from the "local" control ssytem and take it 15LY to a system to exploit, not to another system 15LY further on. Not necessary see below.

Correct:
You should check the Power Play section under the Galaxy Map and click one of the 3 tabs, prep, Expansion or Control to find out which systems are available for taking over. The only exception to that rule is that you can prep any system like we did with Borasetani and it will appear under the Preparation tab.

So merits and trade profit aplenty!

Rules are join forces with Mahon and find a trade route between either a Fortify or Control System and one we want to prep or exploit. [emoji41]
