Nice info thanks, so it is the Frameshift drive upgrades that increases your jump distance ? do we know what that tonnage stat actually means ?

The tonnage is the weight the drive lifts = cargo + ship + outfitting. Since basic drive lifted 48T (8 being cargo) I guessed that more would be better and it was. 75T gives me double the range at least.

albert

Its good to note that a larger cargo hold does not increase your overall weight until you fill it up. If you get 40 unit cargo capacity then you can take on the 50-60k cr missions for hauling. That's the quick route to upgrades. Just make sure the first time you go into the Bulletin Board you have the hold space for it, next time for sure the tempting mission will be gone.

Quote from: ArithonUK;388902But, there is a glitch/bug. After I bought the Framedrive, I set off from the station and tried to jump and.. nothing. Dead. Power? Blown Fuse? No idea. went back to space-dock and landed. Outfitting then had ZERO Framedrives and I had not much money. Stranded. Damn. After contemplating ship destruct, I went and made a cuppa (quitting to main menu while I did) with the intention of returning, and raising a support ticket.

When I came back and re-loaded the game, pow! My list of available systems was like a phone book! So launched and Framedrive spun up and I was 20Lyr away in a single jump! Awesome.

I hope you still raised a support ticket about the initial issue though :D Still a bug, even if it resolves after a quit and reload.

I certainly did and I told them how to work around it as well. Also after fixing my problem of zero frame shift I have a CR coat of 1200 million CR to restock my ammo! I'll stick to lasers I think.

So, i've made my way around the bugs and into a very mildly upgraded Cobra with 20t of cargo space, a Gimbaled pulse & Gimbaled multi canon, and i'm more or less back into Beta 1 "space", think i have about 80,000 cr.... and now i need to find a better Frame Shift Drive and find a nice area of the Beta 2 "pill" that has a mix of combat, trading and upgrade stock.... any ideas where to head to guys ?

albert

I've not found the mission combat mix area yet. Yesterday my previously no dead zone joystick decided to drift horribly into the landing pad so tonight is driver clear out time. But get 40 ton of cargos space. 25 unit missions net you 55k cr

One "problem" i've found.... now your Rep' in an area reduces your cost of items, it makes sense to do a few trade runs around a small zone to increase your rep' and lower prices, i saved 30k on my Cobra doing this, but because upgrades come and go out of stock so frequently you really need to buy them when you see them, so unless they pop up in an area you've already traded a bit to increase your rep' you just have to pay the price as it is... it kind of detracts from the exploration a bit...

So yesterday i bought a new Frame Shift Drive for 170,000k as it was the 1st time i'd seen an improved one for my Cobra.. it upped my Max tonnage from 280-350, but made no difference to my jump range... so kind of a mix of panic buying on my behalf and not enough info on the FSD from Frontier made me feel a bit underwhelmed with my purchase.... 1st world problems i know, i just feel we're still missing some vital info...

Having said all that, i'm still really enjoying it :D

BTW does anyone know if/how we can scan planets with the basic scanner ?

If you're referring to the 'Unknown Object' then just stare at it long enough for it to be recognised.

I think the rep in an area thing is more luck than intention to be honest. Random is the word I would use actually. I found that when the price changes after a few minute after docking it's as if the game is correcting itself.

I found that in the home zone near Eranin and within 30LY you get the good missions and maybe that's because of the population size and more people means more hauler missions and more money. Outside that I was lucky to get 4K CR hauler missions, so I came back to the start and got a 60K CR mission immediately on arriving in a more populated place.

I upgraded my Frame Shift to an F4 and got over 15LY jump range. I also upgraded a load of other stuff in my Cobra:

Multi-Cannon (Bimbal) Scatter - C2 x2
Point Defence Turret
Power Plant - F4
Frame Shift - F4
Life Support - E3
Power Distributor - D3
Sensors - E3
Cargo - 2 x 16 and 2 x 4 Units

I'd like an intermediate discovery scanner but thats a cool half mill!

My stats are now:

Power Use: 9.17MW Current, 13MW Unladen
Cargo 40T, Fuel 16T, Mass 263 - 302 Max
Engine Limit 420T
Jump range 14.48LY Current range from 14.74 Max to 12.78 with full cargo.

Hmmmm, just logged in, new patch 2.05 installed, checked my Jump Range & it's increased from 9.something "laden" last night when i logged out to 13.74 ! Seems my new FSD was good after all it just didn't register until i relogged... ok, now to find some bigger cargo pods & better weapons :)

Carr0t

Supposedly the 2.05 patch is primarily to address the long load times into the game (both before the splash screen on initial launch and into the game proper) and between instances (the long pauses when exiting supercruise etc), so I really want to find out if they've managed to get anywhere with that. It's probably the single most jarring element of the game for me at the moment.

Either i have low expectations for those loading screens or they weren't affecting me, certainly no discernible difference to me in 2.05 anyway.

Since this is the "Tips" thread, just learnt a great one.... DON'T get between a System Authority ship & a wanted target, i just got wasted by (i think) a friendly fire missile whilst chasing the bounty :crying:

albert

The load times and jump exit times are noticeably better now. Decided to go for a Type 6 because I wasn't getting richer fast enough in the Cobra. Now im getting 70K CR per trade and have already upped my power parts, FSD, thrusters, sensors and cargo hold (98T). Asp is looking far less impossible at under 4mill trade in now 😃

I wish we had the option to preserve the load out if we go back to previous ships. Took ages finding all the parts for the Cobra.
