pc monitor for gaming

i'm about to buy a new 27" gaming monitor with a price bracket of just under Â£200
any ideas or tips to help me out?

Sneakytiger. I got a 27" gaming monitor last month and really wish I'd gone for the 24" sometimes.

27" is too big for 1080p in windows, but amazing in games. And the 1440p 144hz monitors @ 27" are bonkers money.

I'd recommend a 16:10 variety instead of 16:9, you'll notice the difference. I can't help you with specific recommendations at the moment (not done any recent research) but just keep in mind that the higher the resolution the more graphics power you need in your PC! And as Dannage said, the 100+Hz monitor are a big step up.

That's a lot of truth right there. However, some of the games (Hello Ubisuck) aren't capable of dealing with it and you're left with black bars(making friends with widescreen fixer is a must). Also, you're not going to be able to afford a 16:10 aspect monitor for <=200 pounds.

Get a good 24", cause a 27" at that price bracket is going to be quite rubbish if I have to be blunt, if you manage to find one that is. And, you'll probably be getting a TN panel as an IPS should be out of your price range.

Like some have said

16:10 is not really desirable anymore, as games are almost always built with console / tv resolutions in mind, and 16:9 is the standard there. Thus many games just don't work well in 16:10.

As for 16:9 monitors, either get a 24" 1080p, or a 27" 2560x1440

However, with the budget you have I would stick to a 24" one, the 27" monitors are more expensive for one that isn't a piece of......

That Aces one looks fine, tbh if you stick with a good brand (like Acer) and read a few reviews first, you won't go far wrong. Most monitors at that spec and price are good quality now, the screens are so cheap and easy to make, they are your good 'value' monitors.

Personally, unless you absolutely must buy now I would wait until G-Sync (and whatever the AMD alternative ends up being) monitors become more available/cheaper.

It looks set to be the biggest technology leap in monitors for a while: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync/videos

Whitey that's the second batch. People seem happy with them. I had my eyes on one but the $600 price got lost in translation and overclockers added their limited stock tax. Made them Â£720. Bonkers!

Got a 1080p 144hz and its brilliant in games and I don't need Â£800 of gfx cards to use it.

Totally agree on price. I thought the days of changing $ to Â£ had gone but looks like it's still the case for this monitor....

I just thought I'd mention it.

The 24" is a bit more sensible at Â£350, I imagine the prices will drop quite rapidly if the technology takes off.

The 16:10 size is better imo because it is an easier on the eye proportion to look at. Of you user the monitor for anything it simply didn't look as squashed as a 16:9.

As for games having problems with 16:10? I've gamed on that ratio for the last 9 years and not had a problem yet so I'm not sure what problems are being referred to?
