Over the weekend i went to the flight sim show at RAF Cosford and i manged to speak to the Dovetail games guys (they have just bought FSX of MS) Anyhew, we spoke for a good 15 minutes as there wasnt a lot of people around their corner at 3pm.

I basically asked him these (his answers are from memory)

a) What did you get from MS, ie, unreleased patches and anything from the "next"version of FSX as they closed the fs studio 3 years after releasing FSX

reply:

We got 14 terrabytes of code from MS, there is stuff in there that wasn't implemented into fs, who knows we may find something that helps us form our version of the game in a couple of years as an upgrade We are still sifting through the data.

b) If i buy fs deluxe when you release it and then say a bucket load of dlc, so all of my stuff is on steam what will happen when you release a "new version"

Reply:

one thing we learnt from Train Sim is too keep a loyal following, and we hope to be able to use the same model, so if you buy something from dovetail on steam for the digital fsx, if..sorry when... we release a newer version our priory will be making sure that people who have bought our DLC will be able to use the same DLC in the new version free of charge. We are also looking a continuing as we have with TS...you buy the base game and we will update the base game when a new one is released.

c) can you get dx10 to work

reply:

that is also a priority, we would like to see several things improved when released or in the first update, we have been asking people today and elsewhere what would they like to see from us with regards to FSX

1)getting DX10 to work...or we implement DX11 later
2) 64 bit...at last
3) multi core...if we can
4) basically we would like it to support modern hardware, so that it utilities it properly and having everything turned right up would actually be a possibility.
5) no gamespy our own multiplayer structure , basically something similar to other games when your host your own server or clan servers can host games

d) what timescale are you looking at

reply:

Definitely this year for the steam fsx deluxe, then more updates and fixes next year, and remember we will be doing steam sales as well, so we will be doing some release sales

e) what about my copy of FSX

reply:

We are actively looking at making peoples dvd copys of the game steam compatible and we are talking to developers about current DLC and making it compatible with steam as well

f) Do you think this is a good move by dovetail

reply:

most definitely...we are in this for the long haul, we want to help this move on and we want to take as many of the people who have fsx already with us

thats all i can remember right now, if i think of anything else ill post it here

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.
