I'm really digging this. I think TL and other were right right though. I think it'll be FAR more fun to earn and equip one of these as an Org. Maybe not even moving it, but just using it as a base while in a particular system (overseeing mining ops or salvage). Whatever we all choose to do with it though - it'll be a great long-term goal.

I didn't realise that the hangar (er-- whatever) would be quite this limited. I think the Idris definitely comes into its own here! I expected it to have at least the same capacity as the Idris - unless i'm wrong. Either way, for me thats put a pretty big downer on it for me. Its not that I was expecting it to be a carrier or anything, just a bit disappointing.

The modular nature of the ship is quite exciting, with the idea of being able to switch things out it'll be an excellent addition to the fleet... in time ;)

Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that this is an online game.  If a Javelin is found, expect other fleets mobilising to secure them.

The hard truth is, other orgs who are buying org capital ships will have the edge against anyone else.  Don't expect to compete with them and win.  And the competition for these salvageable capital ships is literally the entire world.

There is a way to instance yourself to primarily PvE actions. Also, I think that the Javelin will be available with in game currency. The PU has the vast multitude of different play styles in mind in its creation. Some people enjoy PvE or even role-playing. I can imagine that they'll want to get some of these (or something similar) and go star-trek crazy on it. If we're honest, I think the Javelin will be manned by us (say the 28-30 people needed) fairly regularly. The rest of the time it'll be a static meeting place.

Now it has been stated that there may be PVP instances that have things as big as the Bengal Carrier in them. Not sure how thats going to work, but my point stands. Massive, one-off, ships may be instanced for PVP, some others won't be. Primarily though, many of these ships will be available for in-game currency, others won't be. Time will tell and all that.

We really shouldn't be thinking about how to aquire one of these ships. We should be concentrating on how we can blow one up! It would look spectacular streaming flames and debris behind as it streaks down through the atmosphere of some alien world

I second the motion that we should earn this as an org - will be good fun! :dmw:

Can we stop with the snipes about people buying expensive Star Citizen assets please. If you want to pay $2500 for a Javelin then that's your business and really nothing to do with the rest of us. I can't afford one. I'm also not buying any Star Citizen assets for real money prior to game launch. So what?

People who buy ships this far in advance of the game are simply continuing the Kickstarter concept and funding the game up to it's recently announced target of $100m. At that point it seems Chris Roberts plans to just sell retail copies of the game (I imagine for the usual £30-40) and some vanity items i.e fancy paint jobs, go faster stripes. But there will be no subscriptions, no pay to win and no required on going payments at all. If that's so then we should be thankful that other peoples generosity is hopefully going to fund the whole game moving forward post launch. It's also quite possible that some of these ships will be fairly easy to acquire in game quickly. Yes there will be the idiots (not from within the dMw) who will bitch and moan about not getting anything special or exclusive for their hundreds of dollars. But as Chris Roberts makes painfully clear over and over

QuoteRemember: we are offering this pledge ship to help fund Star Citizen’s development. All of these ships will be available for in-game credits in the final universe, and they are not required to start the game. Additionally, all decorative ‘flare’ items will also be available to acquire in the finished game world. The goal is to make additional ships available that give players a different experience rather than a particular advantage when the persistent universe launches.

So they will only have themselves to blame for being delusional and not reading the above.

Nothing that is being bought now is going to be off limits to the rest of us. I'm planning on running some big ships, certainly a Cutlass Black, Super Hornet, Reclaimer and maybe a Constellation as well. And I don't plan on spending any 'real' money doing so. So lets be thankful that people seem keen to continue to fund SC to the advantage of us all.
