Yesterday's ATV indicated we'd see the Starfarer for sale today, along with a modified miltary version the Starfarer Gemini (Star-G).

Now go finish downloading that patch and get online! :P

That's exciting. I'm still in two minds about selling my tali. It's gorgeous but I'm not sure about using it as an escort. Something like this might be a good replacement depending on the loadout.

Ok I'm having one of these periodic "why does everyone feel they have to buy every concept ship CIG throw at us?" moments. We're taking the fun of earning things in game by just pledging for everything, there'll be nothing left to do. Maybe my most recent attempt at Arena Commander and the fact I sucked like 20 deaths to 0 kills in a Spectrum match has something to do with it. A Military Hornet that required a significant pledge and I can't keep it flying for more than 2 minutes between deaths!

I'm not sure that everyone is feeling that way Albert.  I posted it JFI, not to prompt you to buy!

Keep practising with the hornet, it will reward you eventually.

I know mate. You weren't trying to prompt more pledging rather just notifying the community of a new concept sale.

I'm just struggling with the flying part of the game in combat and am thinking with this such a large part of the game it's difficult to appreciate where the fun will come from if actually surviving is so difficult.

I opt for the self preservation approach to battle. I rely on being able to get away if I start to get damaged and live to fight another day. I can't ever do that in Arena Commander.

What ship are you flying Albert, and in which mode?

The Hornet F7CM I think and in terms of mode can you explain more please?

I agree with you completely Albert. I really don't want to sponge up every decent ship in the game before release. I want to start basic and enjoy the process of acquisition as I go along. Entering the world of Star Citizen with an entire fleet of ships holds absolutely no appeal what so ever. But that is just me. Other players are taking a very different but equally valid approach.

The reality is probably going to be that you can play SC without ever getting into serious conflict. There are numerous ways to make your way and shooting stuff is just one of them. Also Arena Commander is like a gladiatorial ring, you're not supposed to be able to run away :D

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

albert

I'm convinced that actually in every vocation within the game there will be trouble around the corner. Take a chance and go out in a Hull B with lots of valuable cargo and no escort and you'll be lucky to survive. That's why I want to get the hang of combat because I believe we'll need to support each other to do day to day stuff.

That's why we have a team though. I'm equally poor at dogfighting.

I mean Vanduul Swarm drone sim, or one of the public multiplayer modes such as Battle Royale.

To begin with, I would recommend sticking to Vanduul Swarm (solo) until you're comfortable with flying and all of the controls, and only venture into the multiplayer public matches when you feel really confident, otherwise you're likely to get your arse handed to you by some scoreboard jockey who plays 10 hours a day :)

We should be getting some private multiplayer free flight matches going soon so we can practice (gently) among ourselves.

Albert, in that ship you need to play aggressively; guns blazing, head on max thrust into your opponent whilst rolling.  The more your erratic behavior the better.  Also it is structurally weak to allow you to run away so its blow them up or die trying.

PS remember what we talked about in October.

Yeah I did a decent amount of drone sims. I was getting hits and points but never a kill.

More practice is the key I agree.
Cheers, Bert

Gorion

Well, getting hits is more important than kills.

It's a group battle so scoring kills isn't that important; contributing to the fight is.

Yeah mate, I remember discussing this with you. The thing that gets me is the whole point of Star Citizen is to exist, thrive and survive, so arcade style battles that just involve crazy kamikaze head on encounters doesn't seem quite right.
