DMW FLY IN WEDNESDAY 27th MAY

First of all, apologies for not having an April Fly in, i was rather busy at work and hadn't found time to plan one.  The May fly in will be circuits of Kai Tak, the ex Hong Kong International Airport. For those that arn't aware, Kia Tak was famous for its approach over Hong Kong.  Due to the positioning of the surrounding mountains, aircraft had to head towards chequer boards located on the side of one of the mountains, before making a sharp right turn to hopefully line up with the runway, the Airport has been closed since 1998 but it is still active in FSX :woot2:.

Any aircraft you want to fly the circuits in is fine, but obviously the larger the plane the better the challenge. Flight time is as long as we want for this one as we will be doing circuits.  However if anyone wanted to suggest flying from somewhere they feel we may enjoy then please let us know.

Any pilots interested meet on the server and TeamSpeak around 19:30 GMT ready for take off at around 20:00 GMT. server details can be found here

Before joining the server be sure to have all air traffic turned off otherwise you will see AI aircraft on the ground and in the air.  Also please make sure you have read the server rules (here) so you are aware of the do's and don'ts.

If your new to FSX this is a great opportunity to come and learn the basics, im sure any questions you may have can be answered.

I hope to see you on the night, if you have any questions feel free to contact me or one of the admins or reply here :)

Can't make this one, sorry.   Fleetwood Mac concert > fly in!

i'd love to give this a go actually. FSX cant cost that much can it.

TeaLeaf

£19.99 at the moment for the Steam Edition.   It's been on offer a couple of times in the past 6 months, down to less than £4 iirc.

Just a bump, this is tonight if anyone is interested

TeaLeaf

Frustrated at missing this one, it's a great approach and a difficult landing.   I might try it tomorrow on my own

Only 2 of us turned up tonight so decided to postpone and rearrange for another night, it's too good to miss this fly in and it will also allow those that couldn't make it enjoy it too, also it will more fun the more people can make it so watch this space :)

I just tried to do Shanghai to Hong Kong Kai Tak and the airport code would not be accepted by the PDMG 777's FMC, so whilst I could create s flight plan for the route I could not load it into the FMC.  I ended up ZSSS to the new HK airport and landed on (?)07R.

Is this a PMDG FMC bug/feature?

I don't know that plane but a lot of planes and addon GPS'es does not use the FSX database. They use a more updated database. So if that airport is now closed, the chance is that the more updated data as in the 777 does not have it.

Tuna

The Kai Tak airport is essentially closed in FSX, no ILS etc, so it may not be navigable :(

The manual approach and landing was always the challenge there though, yes?

The version that did the rounds at the lan may have full nav aids. Think it was fly Tampa version but you can select the Tampa version in fsx I'll try to program a flight to it tomorrow when I get back from a family thing

That was the plan, infact was there even room to have ILS there? Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't

It did indeed have an ILS.  Very challenging though!
