Hello Pilots

DMW are pleased to announce that we are starting a regular Star Citizen event - Friday Night Flight School :dmw:

The aim is to get as many of us as possible flying the ships available to us in either 4 player Vanduul Swarm sorties or, hopefully, 4 vs 4 skirmishes :boxing:

We are all aware that the game as it stands is not without issues (including some bizarre controller glitches - the TrackIR one is my favourite :D ) but with so many of us just champing at the bit it will be good to do some learning together to see just what *is* possible.

Multi-crew ships will be flyable soon so it will be good to get some time at the controls before that happens.

Hope to see some of you on Friday :thumb:

Well, I guess its time for a re-install.

What time on Friday?

Let's say 8pm (BST).

It's my foster daughter's 16th on Friday so I doubt I'll make this one but count me in for the next

TeaLeaf

We may have to limit the places at the flight school, too many on one night and it won't work, so I would not worry Joe!   We'll run several and work together to make sure everyone who wants to go on one has the opportunity.

The maximum number of players in a match at the moment is limited to 8, with the exception of Co-op Vanduul Swarm, which is limited to 4.

In order to set up matches, organisers will need to invite other players into a match (you can't simply join an existing match), so organisers should add all dMw members to their list of contacts as a first step (I'd recommend everyone do this anyway as it allows you to see who is online).  If you don't know how to do this, please refer to the Arena Commander manual.

I would also recommend that anyone looking to attend these first few steps into the verse take a look at the following website section and complete at least the Pre-Flight Checks section before attending a flight school session for the first time, and read the goddamn manual. Yes, read it! (there's a link to it in the website below)

Organisers: the above link also contains a very organised approach to flight training and I would recommend that we use it as a template for our own training (after all, why reinvent the wheel?).

Excellent post Obs, thank you!

We're likely to have to do a 'Train the Trainer' session first to make sure that the trainers know what they are doing too, so please do not expect loads of places available this Friday.  If some are, then it's a bonus!  It might need to wait a week for 'member' sessions, we'll need to see how it pans out!

I'd love to participate in some capacity but this Friday is Ron Sexsmith night so I'll be out.

I've made a lot of effort to learn the ropes especially on setup. I'm not so great a combat itself so would benefit from the help of others but could help give setup advice.
Cheers, Bert

Yeah, that's a very annoying one, I feel like I'm smashing my face into the helmet whenever I look around.

That's *exactly* what these sessions are about. Thanks, albert.

I had to google how to get into the ship.

Methinks I need learning support.

Guys,

I'm aware that Friday's are the official night for people wanting to play GTA and that some of you think there's a conflict with the SC Flight School. Flight School is a *not* an official SC night. It's more of a drop-in type event, a bootcamp, where the people who want to learn the basics (and pass on that knowledge to others) can do so. The leaders need to do this too and Friday was chosen as the best fit for us. Once I feel I've nailed the basics then I will be on TS most nights ready to pass on my new found knowledge to others. That includes pilots who, quite rightly, want to play GTA on Fridays.

In other news ... I may be late tonight

I won't be making it tonight.  I forgot to download SC..

Meh, next week will have to do I guess.

Well, tbh I am expecting that we will need to limit the number of places heavily tonight, simply to make sure that nobody's time is wasted.  A flight school with 12 people in it at the same time will not have much love to spread to each attendee, so the fewer who turn up the better imo, at least for this first one.    Let's make sure the trainers get trained, then we can arrange other nights and book people in over a period of time.   If coop is 4 or 8 people then that should be our absolute maximum limit for any one flight school.
