Guys,

Currently there are just two regular on-line dMw Elite players. Ranualf and myself.

Lameduck comes on in solo a fair bit, but doesn't come on TeamSpeak.

What I'd like to do is poll the Elite player base - we have 40 players in the Albert group - and ask them why they stopped playing, primarily to find out if there is anything we can do to get them playing again regularly.

Is the problem with the game? If so, what? Many haven't played since before Wings (1.2) and have missed out on a lot.

Is the issue with when we play (day and time)?

Is it just that other games have drawn them away and Elite has lost is shine?

What do you think about this?

There's going to be a major release in September and again in October and then the first major expansion released in December, so there's going to be no shortage of stuff to do in Elite.

Thoughts? Any other questions to ask?

Regards

Anthony

I agree with this although it might just get people moaning who are bored of the grind right now. I think we all know what Elite is lacking, mutli-player collaboration and team missions. If the new updates produce this sort of content (CQC may fill a gap for a few months until Horizons). then I'm sure we'll see more players online, if it's more ships and more of the same grind then maybe we won't.

In the end we can't make people play a game it it's lost their interest for the time being.

I'm in that boat as well but will be back playing most nights when 1.4 is past Beta.

Bingo!

Elite released too early in an unfinished state. There was no real multiplayer element to a game that advertised itself as a Space MMO. Therefore I couldn't play as part of the dMw. That's the main fixable problem.

I'm not going to trash Elite here, as it serves absolutely no useful purpose and isn't what was asked for. It's not anything that dMw has done or not done that makes my chances of returning effectively zero. It's that at it's core Elite is not a game I want to play and I think it would need to more or less start again in a whole new direction for that to change. Clearly not something dMw has any control over.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

For me it's the lack of meaningful co-operative gameplay.

I'm not interested in making credits via any form of grinding as a game objective. I've done enough of that to have the ship I want, kitted out with what I need but, now, nothing to do with it that I haven't done multiple times before.

In terms of co-operative gameplay the introduction of 'Wings' was a false hope as was Powerplay, IMHO.

What I'd love to see is dedicated Wing-based missions that are auto-tailored to the strength/numbers of the Wing. This to be followed by mini-storyline missions - much like a raid instance in an MMO.

I'm not interested in PVP so CQC doesn't interest me. Horizons seems to be geared towards solo exploring so I could be interested in that but probably not as a (paid for) DLC.

I'll put my hand up as one who stopped playing.   I did it for exactly the reasons stated above, I'm not a big PVP fan and was frustrated by the lack of mutli-player collaboration and team missions.  I actually want to LIKE ED which is the most frustrating thing!

Given all the above, go figure how nervous I am about Star Citizen, seeing as the PU is a year away from release (probably) and I have *way* more money sunk into SC than I ever did ED!
 :stroke:

Edit: I'm also offline because I really want to play with a hotas and at the moment I don't have one.  But that's a minor bitch because if the coop bit was there then so would I.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will see if I cannot grill Frontier on co-op content and wing-based objectives. I'll let you know how they respond.

Started playing 1.4 last night. CQC is what I expected. Quake 3 Arena with spaceships, straight out of a console play book. Maybe the remedy for ADHD, but not my cup of tea,

The new stuff in the main game is interesting. I haven't had chance to try the new mission systems, but the game has had another major polish and optimisation. It looks better in little places everywhere. The three new ships are awesome for their audio alone! The Imperial Eagle is a flying tron-light-cycle! The Gunship and Assault Ship are variants of the Dropship (same body, different wings/fins/hard-points) The Gunship does what it says on the tin, with seven hard-points it hits like a truck. The Assault ship has five hard-points, but is far more nimble.

I will post a full report on the main forum later this week.

Thanks Arithon, do keep us posted ('us' being the lazy players who backed out) so that we know when to dip our toes into the water again!

Top Ambassador effort Arithon, thanks. I'll drop in on the launch of 1.4 as I mentioned the other night on TS. I'm pretty keen to avoid the Beta's because I have other things to be getting on with and I did enough Beta Elite early on. I also have enough credits to see me through the next few months ;-)
