I've seen some pretty nice skins recently and was just wondering are people getting these in drops or are people actually paying for these?

I only ask because I only seem to get pretty poor skin drops and see a lot of people running around with some nice weaponry :(

Also how have people managed to get different knives?

I know it doesn't matter in the long run, I'm just curious

Blunt

I've bought 1 skin, but I didn't really pay for it as I sold a load of boxes for 3 or 4 quid each.

Sell some stuff and treat yourself!

I got nearly £80 in my wallet just from selling stuff, and that's after buying GTAV and Toxxic.

Some people seem to get lucky with weapon drops at end of games/matches. (DEX comes to mind)
Most will get weapon cases dropped which means they are asking you to spend extra money on the game. If you buy the key to open the case you then enter a kind of lottery as to what will be in that case. You can spend a fortune opening cases and getting nothing of any real quality. If you just want a middle of the road weapon skin quality wise, I would put your cases up for sale and purchase something though the market. Most are relatively cheap or ask about in here I`m sure someone as some stuff they don't want.
I will have a look in my inventory when online tonight ......... I`m sure I have some duplicated stuff and skins that I never use You are more than welcome to them.

Cheers

Yeah, some people (like me) get insanely lucky with drops, so in my case I used the money I got from selling my dragon lore to buy games + the skins you see me using today. Others tend to just buy.

I've had nothing but cases drop for a good month or two..

Someone mentioned that you'll get a drop for each rank you gain - xp, not matchmaking.

SLoWHaND

You seem to get weapon drops after rank up from private 1 to private 2, private 3 etc. through gaining XP
XP is only gained through playing games on official servers whether they are matchmaking or casual, playing other stuff like operation bloodhound will also give XP
Cases seem to be dropped randomly at the end of games/matches on any server.
I have not seen any weapons dropped after a match/game for quite a while.

sucks we don't get XP from playing on the DMW servers :( even a reduced amount would be nice.. come on valve!!

yeah that seems about right but I don't get them at the end of the game like the cases.............. I have a new item in my inventory when I exit the game if that makes sense.

Saw a nice YouTube video today that includes statistics for case opening: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwJAKmjmtrQ

Just thought that this was worth mentioning after Andy's comment...the video creator spent $50,000 on cases/keys and the gear he had at the end was worth around $26,000. Definitely worth avoiding the cases and buying the skins you want!

I actually opened a case the other day............It was donated to "SLoWHaND" from my alt account "BaDGe" along with a few minor weapon skins.
Inside the case was a field tested "CRIMSON WEB" Knife I don't know why I opened the case as I usually put them straight up for sale.
Well it was worth £90.00 ish. I always thought it would be cool to own a nice knife but the lure of more exotic rifles tugged at me so I have sold it along with a few other bits.
I now own a FN VULCAN AK47 and a FN GOLDEN COIL MP4A-S not sure how long I will keep the GOLDEN COIL tho because I think I preferred the CYREX.

You lucky git, I'd love a knife! I saved up from selling shadow cases and managed to buy the cheapest stattrack AK on the market, Elite Build. It's now my most prized possession!

To be fair, the Elite Build is also a very nice skin. I'm surprised how cheap it is considering how good looking it is.
