So after everyone left today (do i smell ?), i found a spot for my  hut/house/base, a bit south of the main camp on some rocks over looking the beach with a lovely view, i laid the foundations then popped back to the keep to pick up more supplies from my little chest when i stumbled across a Carbonemys right outside the keep handily wandering among all the berry bushes ! I decided it would be easier if this little lady would carry all my crap for me so ran to grab my bow, tranq arrows and narcotics (cheers whoever threw those at me on day 1 !) popped back out, then decided to wait for daylight, thankfully she didn't wander off so as soon as daylight arrived a started my first tame ! Jeez it's a nervous time that first one, i totally underestimated the amount of narcoberries i'd need so between running around the bushes for more i had to top her up with my precious narcs, then i couldn't find enough bloody mejoberries so had to feed her other stuff, whilst killing dodo's for my personal hunger and occasionally going for a dip to replenish my water supplies (and cooking the dodo meat on the handy beach campfire on the way past), it still went dark before i'd finished, so super thankful it was very close to the keep.... i was running around frantically for about an hour (or whatever a full days daylight is on the server, plus an extra bit ?) but the sense of achievement is great:)

So now i can have her carry all my rubbish to my house to finish the build, one question though is it worth the engram points for a saddle ? i think she's just destined to be a pack mule, but according to the wiki they are fairly tough and fast swimmers, so may be quick to scoot up and down the coastline between bases rather than run for now, or is that a flawed idea ?

Anyway many thanks to all those who donated stuff including advice :D ... i now feel like i have arrived properly... and today i DIDN'T die :woot2:

Nice one, Andy :thumb:

I'm fairly sure I've got a saddle you can have although, having broken your taming duck, you'll find the Trike is a more able beasty.

Cheers OB :)

I just had a look at the Trike on Wiki, the thing that gets me about all taming i've looked at so far is the time, according to the Wiki, unless you're using kibble, a lvl 1 Trike is going to take 47 minutes to tame, so i guess it's use kibble or come (unlike me today) very prepared with a ton of berries/narcs, food for me, supplies to make a fire etc and a ton of weapons for nighttime ? and preferably friends ? :g:

BrotherTobious

The taming does take time, I have a book on standby :)

Finished my Hut/Shack/Shed... with bed, standing torch thingy and pestle and mortar, i know it's an obvious combination  .... built my roof too low, so DuVal's generously donated storage boxes don't fit, so tomorrow ill rebuild it and i think extend the whole damn thing too.....

What do i do to prepare for my Trike taming to extend into darkness ? i'm a tad worried about sitting on the beach on my own feeding it berries and hoping not to die !

Still not dead... today :D

PS - and OHH an Ark badge !

OldBloke

Taming is twice as quick as standard on our server. For the trike you only need a wooden club to knock it unconscious, narcoberries to keep it under and mejoberries to feed it.

Be over before you know it :D

I also gave you narcotics. Don't forget the bow and Narc-arrows.
If you need a few more, you can pick some up from my crib/storage if you need them.

You've got the saddle now for the Carbo-turtle, if you need any other then let me know, I can make a few and have quit a bit of hides and such stored.
I'm staying around the main keep so if you need any help during evenings, just let me know. If my little nephew is around I'm helping him out but he's not online a lot this week.

If you need some fast berries, wood and thatch, use the mammoth. That thing is brilliant for getting those materials in no time.

Yeah I used the narc arrows/narcs (when I ran out of narcoberies) on the turtle, I'm quiet happy knocking the buggers out now, it's the surrounding Carnivores that worry me ! I guess I'll aim for a dawn start, use the mammoth to collect a ton of berries and be prepared, will berries last over night on the mammoth so I can gather them evening then use to tame at day break ? ..... I guess the mammoth will be good for mats to extend my hut too....

RogueTaylor

The turtle is a great tame it was my first tame and your using it the best way for now, it's best used to hold items and a good dino to defend you it take a lot to kill a turtle, it should be able to even take on raptors depending of levels. The turtle saddle doesn't get unlocked until lvl 35 I think but I have saddles and bps for them.

I am sorry to leave you earlier had to go out with gf and she was waiting a while because I got distracted helping pen and oldie tame a quetzal lol. If you need help tho Andy please ask.

AndyBee

Still not dead, 3 tamed beasties (thanks for the Direwolf Du), a wooden house, desperately need to make food last longer or farm meat more easily, Direwolf possibly good for that ?

Is farming worth while ? i seem to have a ton of seeds and the ability to make a plot, plus a prime beach front location !

Did i mention.... 3 DAYS NOT DEAD :woot2:

RogueTaylor

Dire wolf will get you food and will get you chitin which is something you will start to need a lot of soon to make saddles and armour. That wolf will get a lot of meat for you when it kills so the beat thing to do is get a or maybe two preserving bins these run on spark powder and are like a fridge in the way but it drys out the meat and keeps its from spooling for a bit longer, it will still have a timer but the timer would have been increased. Failing that out any berries or meat into a dino it will last longer in them then in your inventory or a chest

AndyBee

Cheers for the info.... i've been studying the Wiki so saving engram points for Preserving Bin & Refining Forge at lvl 20 !

RogueTaylor

Don't get the forge I and many other got blueprints of them so don't waste your points on them, unless you need them for other engrams which I can't remember right now

AndyBee

So if I give the mats required to someone with the blueprints they can make me a Forge ? I'm still a little confused over blueprints having not come accross one yet....

RogueTaylor

correct, i will just give you a blueprint and you can have it, its like a engram but other people can use them. its easier to explain in coms lol
