heres my new pc build guys:

intel i7 6700k

asus maximus 8 hero mobo

corsair vengance lpx 16gb ddr4 3200mhz

cooler master hyper 212evo cpu fan

cooler master maker pro 5 case

waiting on the egx show to get my 1080, as they sometimes have show deals on.

yeah planning on it but not sure if i should get a water cooler like a h100i instead of the 212 evo air fan.

Don't bother with an air cooler. The corsair hydro ones like you mentioned (or in fact any of their competition similar units) are so cost effective now... and better than the air coolers. Just get a h100, or even a smaller one h80, h60, etc... I don't know why anyone would bother with an air cooler anymore tbh... seems like a no brainer to me.

But unless you're overclocking for the technical fun of it you don't need to bother overclocking that sneaky. Most modern CPUs will never be pushed by modern gaming at stock. Overclocking is pointless unless you're doing very specific things.*



*Disclaimer for anyone that argues OC does have some gaming benefits... I am giving general advise where a few extra frames in a few CPU-heavy games are not worth the 24/7 extra running voltages / temps and reduction in potential lifespan / increased potential for things to bork

I use an H115i and it's brilliant.

Before that I had the H100 (first one) and that was good too.

H100i here, 55 degreesC even with the fans venting rather than cooling. Although 100 quid vs already got a decent air cooler and spend the money on it is a no brainer for me, use Air until you need better. I overclock to 4.5GHz.

I would echo the advice already given by Chaos. Overclocking won't bring much noticeable benefit, other than just making your box a little hotter and (possibly) shortening the lifespan of your hardware. You're already putting a monster CPU in there to start with, so diminishing returns at best I would say.

With that in mind, an H100 is probably overkill. That's my personal opinion

This. Unless you are taking this thing on an airplane or something silly like that. Being such a fan of custom watercooling, I'm almost ashamed to admit that the out of box closed loop coolers are more than enough. Custom systems are more for show with current tech.

Could be coil whine? A quick Google search suggests that the Corsair PSU might be affected, so you might want to check that out.
