So the dev in charge has given an overview of what will be available in game in a months time:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/326211-2-3-Dev-Update

Highlights as I see them:

Setting up Multicrew
Fundamentally, Multicrew is about having fun with friends, so we want to make sure there are as few barriers to enjoying this feature as possible, starting with the crew formation process. We want to make it as easy as possible to start having fun on a multicrew ship.

As long as their ship has enough seats (different ships have different multicrew capabilities) a Commander can directly invite players, or can set their vessel to allow multicrew access. Commanders looking to play as crew can either accept direct invites, or activate a new “looking for ship” feature, which will automatically place them as crew on a suitable vessel with multicrew access allowed, making the process quick and painless.

When joining a crew, a Commander will log out of their current vessel and transfer to the multicrew vessel, regardless of distance. They can also leave at any time (or be evicted by the ship’s owner) at which point they can return to where their ship was last, making the whole affair a very friendly, drop in â€" drop out procedure.

Helm, Gunner and Fighter Con Roles - The gunner role allows a crewmember to take control of all turreted weapons on the ship. Using a third person interface, they control a reticule that all turrets within their arc will automatically follow; giving them improved spatial awareness and easy control of all turreted weapons. Furthermore, the gunner has access to advanced sensor systems, allowing them three hundred and sixty degree tracking arcs.

The fighter con role lets a crewmember launch and control a fighter..... meaning three human controlled ships can be flying at the same time. Imagine a wing of 4 with 3 humans on each ship!

All bounties and vouchers that the helmsman (ship owner) receives are duplicated for each crewmember, However, as they share the benefits, so too do they share the punishments.

And supporting multicrew in 2.3
is the Commander Creator. Commanders will be able to create a unique avatar using a wide variety of options, finally putting a face and character to their name. And with a new, fully-fledged camera system, they’ll be able to view themselves and their crew in real time as they adventure across the galaxy.

Me: Sitting not being overly excited, let's just say I'm opimistic :B

Thanks for the overview, Bert. All looks pretty straightforward and potentially great fun :thumb:

It could be, but let's not hold our breath, we've been disappointed before. I would like to see things like passing Nav control to a crew mate, planetary scanning role to find and identify things like ruins easier, if a ship has multiple SRV's the crew able to land and jump in there together and lastly, crew and private group members being able to utilize the engineering unlocks of other group members. but this little lot is a start. I think the character part will be impressive as Frontier really got that right with Planet Coaster.

Liberator

Well they say you can have players piloting your fighters, so I see no reason why SRV's shouldn't also be included.

RogueTaylor

it sounds awesome and i cant wait to try this feature out

If you want a boost in Credits, by that I mean just enough to get you going, nothing game spoiling, just let me know.

Although part of the fun is just being in a starter sideinder and working out what the hell you need to do to survive, earn a few quid and then spend it wisely.

We're having a go a the Arena game this evening, it's a level playing field for everyone so a good place to try out dogfighting.

heh turns out i had a Viper MkIV docked a few lightyears away, just recovered it.. man that is a big upgrade from the started ship :)

albert

Yeah it was a thankyou for being an early player. Also you may be able to buy a Cobra MKIV, exclusive to 1st year players as well. You may also have a few paint jobs.

Suggest aiming for a Diamondback Explorer as a good multi purpose ship.

That's not true.

Quote from: Elite WikiThe Cobra MkIV is available for in-game credits to anyone who has individually purchased both Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons before the 5th of Feb 2016 on PC. This also includes Lifetime Expansion pass holders.

As such, I didn't qualify because I only got the expansion recently but I was an early backer of the game.

albert

Ah I stand corrected. Thanks.

I missed yesterdays stream on multi-crewed ships.  Has anyone seen it posted online?
