I did a nice flight yesterday whilst working, IFR all the way from Amersterdam, trans-Atlantic and then a VFR approach to the famous Princess Juliana airport where people stand on the beach to view planes landing over their heads and then ride the fence in the jet blast when they take off.   Scenery was courtesy of FLYTampa for both EHAM and TNCM.

I tracked the whole thing on ProjectFLY again, so added another flight route to the map and a country visited to my ProjectFLY passport.

It was a great flight, with a nice change to VFR the approach rather than letting ILS line up until 6nm DME, so it was a pleasure to fly.

Enjoy the screenshots!

EHAM Schipol airport

Amsterdam falling away en route for 39,000ft cruising to the Carribean.

The SW tip of the Cornish coast, about to start out over the Atlantic.

Downwind leg for runway 10 at Princess Juliana (runway is on the far island, righthandside, just in sight in the distance - not the runway below and to the right of the plane!).

VFR final approach for TNCM runway 10.  TNCM does not have ILS, so it is VFR all the way down to the beach and then brake hard to not overshoot the runway and end up in either (a) the sea or (b) the mountain!

Managed to stop before the water, so now to turn around and taxi back to the terminal parking.

Parked at 1A, looking across to the famous beach where you can 'ride the fence' in jet blast!

Looking back to the main island from the TNCM terminal. Excellent scenery from FlyTampa and a great way to end the flight.

At least you know where the terminal building is now!    I'm jealous, and hope you have a wonderful time!    Raise a cocktail or three for us lot back in the UK when you're there eh?

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Wow I've not seen a flight sim in years!

No.   This flight was a little too long to sit there and do real time, so I did the climb and descent phases in real time, but then accelerated time to 4x for every straight & level bit of the transatlantic cruise (ie I went back to real time for every heading or altitude/step change).  I also reverted to real time to manage the fuel pumps and crossfeeds as required during the flight.

I think I did this flight in about 5 hours total, but whilst this was running on my primary monitor, I also did some work on a second monitor during a lot of the transatlantic phase.  Strangely, the white noise of a 4 screaming jet engines is actually quite relaxing and easy to work through.  Client phones calls though.........let's just say they were a different matter!

True, but at least that's realistic :flirty:

The final destination of TLs trip. Yes the sky is cloudy but its still warm and dry. And the pool is our alone. Something to do with the swim up bar at the other pool... Anyway landing was amazing here as a passanger. The sight of an Island resort and sun bathers was stunning but what did it for me waa the approach, 787 Dreamliner circles the Island and approaches from the West to a runway that starts at the waters edge and ends in a marina. Amazing.
