So it became clear last week that our attempts in Elite to defend our position in our home system were pointless.

Several people have joined our forums to make contact since realizing we are a Player Faction supporting a minor faction in game. Whilst here is no apology for taking our home system, (understandable, it's a game after all) some interesting options have come up that may get more people engaged in Elite in dMw.

Winters is the Power that controls Zeta Trianguli Australis and the Winters Powerplay group assisted the AI/ NPC faction that was challenging us last week (dMw formerly had faction as opposed to power control). They realized they have to work pretty hard since we were actively defending the system. This attacking group comprises of several hundred players so we stood no chance.

Our home system is right in the middle of contested space. this offers up a problem, in that we will always be threatened, and an opportunity, if we side with the group who took the system from us.

Winters is a Federation Power, but not a hardcore military power, more corporate. ZTA has always been Winters controlled.

So I will propose to the Winters Power Group:

1) dMw pledge in game to Winters (nothing special about that).
2) We assist in fortifying ZTA (take things from Rhea 70LY back to Guest City)
3) We join in on defending against other Powers who might try and take ZTA and surrounding systems (logical, we'd do this anyway).

In return:

1) We get ZTA back under our control
2) We agree not to expanded to more than 50% of the systems around the bubble of ZTA (impossible with our numbers anyway)
3) We get help from them to expand to a few systems around ZTA.

Just thought I would share this with the GL group since this is s bit of diplomacy with another community and see if anyone had any objections to this approach.

Cheers,

Bert

Sounds great! Is this opposing faction a community that plays elite, or just a group within elite. I.e. do they have something similar to dMw with chat and content outside of the game, a website perchance?

I'm only thinking that it's always nice to make new friends and you never know who would be interested in some of dMw if only they knew about us! If a chance presents to say hello and show off dMw to another group of gamers, then why not!  :flirty:

They're a rather large player community who have their site, forum and discord in a pretty mature state. Interestingly 3 or 4 of them were quite happy to join our forums to just make contact. I'll post more details of them on thr Elite forum pages once we reach an agreement. I'll also introducd dMw on their forums if they have them and share the link here.

I posted a sticky about the Elite agreement. Couldn't find any forums of the 2 groups we are allied with but will keep digging.

So maybe they have discords but no forums? Either way nice to meet some new gamers. I see they have invited us to their discord to say hello.. does that make you the first dMw cross galaxy emissary Albert? :woot2:

Whilst I'm sure the alliance thing is in good hands, one of the things we should be aware of and monitor is community drift.   Please can you make sure we stay on our Discord and that members do not drift through to theirs over time.   Thank you!

I hear you TL. I think we have more of them on our discord in the Elite channel than we have dMw natives right now. They actually asked is it ok to be here on ours? I said of course and we have lots of other good games running.

To be honest. I think I didn't need to encourage these guys to come and join the forums or Discord. Strange days! 20 people thanked me for joining their discord and welcomed me.. The sort of people who might be good candidates for dMw Star Citizen in future.

Thanks Albert, as long as they have a forum account then they are absolutely welcome on Discord.

Yes, this is always my thinking mate :D

To me, dMw offers something unique with both it's vast array of games and it's ethos and tight knit community (not to mention the LANs, BBQs, trips to Europe and so on). I always think that more like-minded people would be interested in us if only they knew what we are. Making contact with other groups, particularly single-game focussed ones, may be a great way to 'advertise dMw', but as TL has noted is not without what I shall call technical difficulties.

The mainstay of this as you have said is to neither actively lose dMw-ers to other folds, nor encroach upon these groups inappropriately. The bottom line of the latter is we simply give the right impression of what dMw is with our contact with these groups, that we present ourselves appropriately. Thay way we may attract the right people organically, without stepping on any toes along the way!

I am fully aware of course this does not need to be said to you, nor 99% of our membership, but it is something that as the game leaders and so on, we always have to keep an eye on.

I hope those musings aren't too wishy washy! Once again I am excited by these developments, I'll hop on to their discords to say hello myself at some point! As I have said before at the end of the day more friends can never be a bad thing!

All access was through firstly signing up for our forums and going through the make me a member process. So all good.
