Just bought an SSD for booting quicker.  Is there a simple way to transfer win 10 to it or am I better doing a clean install?

Chaosphere

Either option works. There are some good free cloning programmes out there, have a read of this - https://www.techadvisor.co.uk/feature/software/best-drive-cloning-software-3675401/

That said, personally I always prefer a fresh install when moving a system to a solid state, as it gives you the best possible experience from the word go - and presents an opportunity for spring cleaning too!

Shout if you need any further help.

If you have your licence key then a fresh install on the new SSD is best (and does not take long).  If you have the old drive use it as a slave until all the data is transferred across, then you're good to go.   Fresh install always better than trying to clone across imo.

if it is a samsung ssd, go to their website and their is a clone tool that works on samsung ssd'd only. I used it on kingston boot to new samsung boot, worked fine

It's a Kingston 240gb SSD, if it makes any difference?  Games are on my HDDs, so this is solely intended for the OS and m$ office

It just means you can't use the Samsung software sulky linked. You can still use something from the article I posted above, though, but as TL advised I would still recommend a clean install. Always the best way.

Damnit, you beat me to it!

Obs is right though, if you get big games like SC then you'll want to put them on an SSD as the difference in loading times is immense.

True I had SC on  a mechanical and from pressing the universe button to waking up on the bed was about 7 mins. When transferred to SSD it was less than a minute
