So my beloved Nexus 5X finally bit the dust last weekend and despite trying all the tricks in the XDA forum it refused to splutter back to life. Ding-dong. Upgrade fairy calling :D

As a replacement I considered the Oneplus 6 (a really fussy friend has one and loves it) but I really want to stick to the stock Android experience provided by Google hardware so I'm thinking 'the Pixel 3 is announced shortly. I'll take a look at that'. But the thought of forking out £800+ on a phone is nuts.

So I remembered that I had recently read a long-term review of the Pixel 2 XL and the author was super impressed by it. A read of a couple more and it looked like good fit for me. However, a check on the Google store showed the 64GB model still being sold for £799.

A quick check of prices showed the same phone being heavily discounted by multiple retailers (thanks, Pixel 3 :D ).

So I picked up a brand new 64GB Pixel 2 XL for £549 from Carphonewarehouse - a cool £250 off :yahoo:

I'm really pleased with the purchase and can't believe the massive jump in speed and screen quality from the 5X. The 6 inch screen size is daunting at first but then so was the 5.2 when I first got the 5X. The extra screen estate is so useful. It also has Pie for me to play with so happy days.

That's really surprising it's still being sold for that, as the pixel 3 is to be announced (supposedly) at a Google event on October 9th.

That's a bit cheaper than we get it here in europe (â,¬632). But the 128GB is only £22 more expensive (â,¬658). Good deal.
