So, our second most favourite Linus, the canadian one, did a video yesterday on the most average gaming rig currently in use. His video is here: https://youtu.be/9XrmFXeOdFc

Apparently, mine is the exact spec. i7-4770k, Z87 motherboard, 16 gigs of memory, nVidia 1060 graphics.

This brings me to the question: how many of you are also rocking stone age gear like mine? How much longer are you thinking you'll run it?

I think I'll try to squeeze a couple more cycles from it, due to very, very bad memories of my last AMD rig. Yes, Ryzen seems good, but the aversion is strong. I want to see what Intel does next, and if they stop impersonating mid 2000's AMD I'm getting on board the Team Blue train again.
(Also, no need to build a new rig when getting a GPU involves a full scale land invasion of Taiwan...).

Jasmine inherited my old rig, built around a 4770K and GTX 970.

Works well enough! Fantastic CPUs, really.

That said, she got to a point playing Planet Zoo where the frame rate tanked as the CPU just couldn't keep up with everything going on. She just started another Zoo and carried on!

Likely she will get me 8086K whenever I end up upgrading to a Ryzen build... but with the current climate that will likely be 2022 or even later!

Very similar kit here Faust, I currently have an i7-4770k, 16GB RAM, but much slower graphics as I run 2 x GTX770 in SLI - which in reality means a single 770 is trying to run anything as very few things do SLI well these days.  The 1060 you have is about 75% faster than my 770 if it gives you some idea of performance! As you can probably see from the Obsidian thread, I'm currently upgrading that system which I originally built in 2013.   I have two issues with the current system:

Firstly I do get CPU bound, usually when I have a work financial model running in the background and a game in the foreground!   Secondly, my graphics card just can't cope with anything even remotely modern on my monitor.  It needs more grunt, especially as I want to upgrade the monitor to a higher refresh rate wide screen with even more pixels than my current 2560x1600.

I think Linus was a little generous in some of the titles chosen, but the 1060 is a lot better card than my 770 that's for certain.   The 4770K is not a bad CPU, it's lasted well, but for my use it is time to replace it as putting a new graphics card with that CPU would not be a good match!   If I had a newer card than the 770, perhaps I might wait too, particularly given the ridiculous supply situation at the moment.

I'm somewhat behind that point with an i5 4670, GTX 1060, Z97 mobo and 16 Gb RAM. That being said it plays most stuff moderately OK.
I have neither the patience, interest or most importantly the skill to do anymore self builds so I'm going to snag a new custom built jobbie in the next few months.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

my  daughter inherited a pc off my son, who inherited it off me before hand,

i7 4790k with 16gigs  and a 1070

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

planet zoo and planet coaster run horribly on my rig too past an 'x' amount of guests in the parks the game can't handle it regardless of how good your rig is, you can limit the amount of guests.

i5 4440, RX5700XT and 16gb DDR3 at this exact moment - make of that what you will ;-)

Considering I can sort of run the titles I'm playing at a somewhat liveable quality, I'm holding out for GPU shipments to return, and for Intel to have a new CPU lineup instead of yesteryears stuff on a serious voltmod [emoji51]

My machine has i5-9300H, GTX 1650 , 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD :)

But I don't play any AAA titles that were released after 2018...

EDIT: More depressingly I only bought it 6 months ago...

I have an i7-2700k 16GB RAM 4 x 256GB and GTX970. Its proper ancient but I never have any gaming issues. I mostly only play multiplayer games though.

It runs ok, medium to low settings on most things and keeping view distances below 3000 seems to work.

I took the approach of setting everything to off / low then gradually adding back in until I got to a playable state, I haven't "pushed it". I'm thinking about a RAM upgrade in April to be honest, can fit another 8GB in here
