Dates -7th-10th October.

No no, you can't book your room yet.

Please see discord, within the beer bar, for a poll - we are trying to get an idea of who might actually be thinking of coming to the October LAN.

The poll takes 30 seconds, if that. Please have a quick look now and register your interest if you are planning on coming along.

More LAN info is coming soon!

Probably a bit of a sensitive topic/question to be asking but are you considering anything like vaccination 'passports' or if you've been in discussion with the hotel is this something they are looking for? I don't know what the current rules are around gatherings like this and giving how quickly things have changed in the past 18 months it may be a difficult question to answer now.

Overall we will be following whatever rules the government puts in place for functions like ours.

At the moment there are no requirements for vaccines, tests, or masks. We don't want to 'add' too much to this, as we aren't keen to bring the LAN back in any sort of restrictive / locked down way. Bit more info coming soon, with the booking thread most likely, but that's it in a nutshell.

As you have suggested, these things could easily change before the LAN, and should that happen we will just have to go along with whatever that entails. Fingers crossed nothing too dramatic, and that the weekend can go ahead in a more or less 'normal' fashion.

Re: the Hotel, at present they don't have any additional restrictions, but I will be checking in with them again a bit closer to the time.

Hope that helps. Booking thread will be up sometime in August, with more concrete info then. Part of the reason behind this poll is so we can talk through these things with numbers in mind.

All sounds good to me. I mostly ask because as I say, I really don't get what the rules are due to what seems like constantly changing requirements, e.g. nightclubs no passports now but needed from September(what?).

TeaLeaf

Planning to attend, probably, COVID rules etc allowing.  Most likely I will already have been exposed to university students for 5 weeks by then, so my antibody levels should be sky high! :roflmao:

The nightclub bit really baffles me. So they've realised they're a risk, but are only going to do something about it in September?

Makes no sense, like much of the government's strange responses throughout this thing!

We'll keep a close eye on any restrictions on other events - ours would be classed as a private function, so sort of like a wedding (and you're free to share the wedding suite with Jewelz if you desire / are masochistic). :norty:

When are you likely to say we can book as I would need to take it off as annual leave

Booking thread will open next month. Don't know exactly when as we have a couple of things to discuss amongst ourselves and with the Hotel first.

As usual supporting members get a week of priority booking, so make sure you're subscribed if you don't want to risk it filling up before you can book - although with the pandemic and flight issues this is probably less likely this year.

I think the biggest issue for us non-UK residents is the debacle with incoming and outgoing testing. Having to get a PCR test when arriving and then another 72 hours before departure will be like, hey can I have my test on day 2, and an hour later, hey can I have my departure test please? And in between any number of opportunities to pick up the virus could have ocurred. Also the cost being over £100 per test becuase they won't allow travellers to use the NHS, I think this LAN might end up costing £300-400 above a normal one, and that's before the flights which are inflated as well are considered.

It could be the end of dMw LANs for non-UKers unless people don't mind forking out a fortune and perhaps mixing the trip with a holiday.
Cheers, Bert

I really hope the testing you described is eased somewhat in time. I think vaccination records are going to cover this, like they do with other infectious diseases in different parts of the world such as with yellow fever, for example.

Either that or they will have to reduce the cost. A £200pp entry/exit fee is too steep, it'll surely just make people more likely to holiday elsewhere.

I'm optimistic internationals will still be attending LANs in the coming years... but it was also fairly clear that this first LAN back wouldn't be one of them, sadly.

It's a vicuous cycle. UK vaccinate, then open up to travellers, EU say thank you but you're a black country for delta transmission so you cannot come to here without a bunch of tests, UK say well you're also a black country therefore have 2 tests.

Basically they are all the same level of risk, therefore testing to enter only serves one purporse, to try and prevent spread whilst in transit, which is sensible but if we live like this forever we'll all be crazy by Christmas. We live a 45 minute flight from Manchester where Sarah's parents live, and we havne't seen them for 2.5 years. My Mum's ashes are in Edinburgh waiting to be picked up to be scattered, can't go back to do this without planning a full holiday. We had a holiday recently since in the EU travel is allowed, all measures were very sensible, also at a beer festival yesterday, all outdoors and distanced.

We're hoping to be on a ferry this week and just suck up the testing requirements just to get to Manchester. That way we're easily keeping distance. Flying you have no chance of avoiding some issues if one person has the virus, I mean they let people remove masks just so they can eat a sarny so the airline can make a few quid. Crazy.

If the UK have managed to clarify their stance on fully vaccinated foreigners by then, I'm in.

We have guys out here in Saudi that have had both vacs in Saudi and as such still have to isolate for 10days when they come home as they still have to follow amber rules and they didnt have jabs in UK

As i had one AZ here in Saudi and the 2nd  AZ  back in the uk it says on the UK NHS app that i have had both doses in the uk and only need a day 2 test... no wonder people are unhappy

I came into this world with nothing,
