First may I say that the standard of the players in dMw is very high. I’m not just saying that, I mean it! In fact since I started playing on Meat Hook my own game has been raised and I feel much more confidant.  :)  I know I've only played in one match but I feel duty bound to say I was surprised by an attitude of defeatism.    From losing the knives round- 'we've just lost our best chance'- to the end -'they were better than us'-. This may well have been true, but lets not help them by saying it.  Although we were doing a great job keeping them at bay in the second round, there was, unfortunately, an air of 'waiting for the inevitable'. We were in fact, our own worst enemy.

All the discipline that is evident in PCS seemed to go out of the window along with self-belief. I can almost hear the response to this post ‘it’s a different game’ ‘we don’t play enough on other servers’ ‘who the hell are you?’

Well it’s not a different game, playing PCS is a help not a hindrance and I’m someone who can convince myself I’ll only come fifth! When I shot archery competitively, my head would rob me of more victories than I can remember. So I know how a wrong attitude can mess you up.

I think my previous sig said it all:

If you think you can, or you think you can't, YOU'RE RIGHT!

The quote is from Henry Ford.

A very good point Doorman. Point taken.

I have to say that even though we got wiped out i still enjoyed the game which i have to say i normally dont.
But they were good and yes after you see them getting all there kills with headshots (3 and even 4 in succession) you can lose a little confidence.

I can see that your job in dMw is going to be "Moral Officer" and i vote for you one hundred percent  :D

Doorman

Funny enough Blue, I was going to use your quote but I forgot.
What's the salary for a morale officer?

the reason for the defetist attitude is simple, we have had far to many defeats in the past, you wernt around 4 JCSL or even our spell in the prem of ED, this was just heavy defeat after heavy defeat. i think that we just expect to lose because we are so used to it, if we had a few wins on the trot then maybe the attitude would change a bit

I must agree with Doorman. we didn't seem to want to win. the first round in any match is probably the most important. and after losing the knife fight they picked. which in my experience makes very little difference in MR12. so we win the first round but they drop a man mid round. which can happen but as they did not ask to pause, you play on. the next round starts and they ask to pause (which as I see it only fair). but instead, we restart the whole match. :x  giving away a very important a fairly won advantage.

then I think it was the 3 or 4 round we lost a man. but instead of the restart  :?  or even a pause. we just had the attitude that we are going to lose anyway so it doesn't matter. :x  so we played on :(  then we score a wonderful 1-11

The second round showed they were no better than us. so maybe just a little more positive thought and not being so over fair to give the game away, we should start winning games.

I know I'm the new guy, but a thought i would say my bit

Sorry Sheepy just read you post.

MOst people play matches because it is the only way they get away from the fragfest of public play, and use some tatices. but the thing i love about PCS is that you are close to that in nearly every game. :)

So if we are going to play matches lets try and win. we have some good players. and it takes a lot of time and effort to play in a match. So lets try and win some :)

Tonight we lost 20 - 4 to [AK].  Whichever route we attacked, however fast or slow we attacked it, it didn't work.  They were better than we were.

I like the idea of the positive mental attitude and would have to say that I have probably been guilty of some of the negative thoughts & comments mentioned above in past matches.  But I plead the 5th and call into evidence the following:

-=[dMw]=- started in ED at the very beginning and got off to quite a good start.  We won 10 of our first 15 matches.  As a result, when Spike split the league into a premier and standard ladder we managed to find ourselves in the Premier league.  We were actually first in the ladder at one point (Oldie reminded everyone to take a screenshot as you'd never see it again - he was right of course!).  As the ED ladder matured, we found that we were quite literally out-classed and in the wrong division.

So far this year we have played 82 matches (more than almost any other clan - ANTS is a good exception)
We have won 25 (including a fair number of '1-0' no show wins)
We have drawn 6
We have lost 51 (none through no shows).
We have won only 5 of our last 52 matches (not counting the default wins).

So please don't be too harsh on those -=[dMw]=- peeps who have been playing in the ladder since the start of the year.  We have had a REAL long year and found ourselves, by accident, at completely the wrong end of the league.  In order to find our natural level, we have had to be played by those clans around us.  Mono, Krult etc.  During this period we have gone through more lube than any person should have to see in their whole lifetime.

Mentally we are more than a little FUBAR after this series of exceedingly brutal rapes, so please forgive my negative ramblings in mid-match when my head is blown off from the other side of the map by some zip-fast player with lightning reactions and a Washington-stylee trigger finger whilst I am still sitting in spawn waiting for my buy-script to finish getting  the Glock that I have just had to save up for 3 rounds to purchase.  You catch my drift........and I will try harder to remain positive in future, but:

I like CS.
I love PCS.
I am a crap CS match player who tries hard.
I am an average PCS team player who tries hard.
I love the comradeship in Meat Hook PCS and try hard to improve it for other PCS players on MH.

Sometimes shit happens and you find yourselves up against a really good team that have better skill levels than yours.  You can learn to accept it, because it does not detract from your PCS enjoyment.  You could accept that PCS and -=[dMw]=- is not all about being the best CS Clan in the UK, otherwise the friendship that we have on the server might not be as it is.

We DO need better tactics for matches (PCS tactics rarely work in matches), but that will not usually give you the edge needed to beat a team with a far better skill set.

I play the game for fun and try hard to do my best, but am happy if people want -=[dMw]=- to be more competitive in matches.  But bear in mind that we have never sent out our best squad, because we have not been set up to be an elite clan, more a community.  We are a PCS clan that plays in a ladder as a secondary pursuit not the other way around.  Herein lies a HUGE debate about what 'you' want the clan to be.  If you want better match performance then you need to practice a lot more, exclude average and poor players from teams, recruit better CS (not PCS) players etc.  If this happens, then I will accept it and hereby volunteer my team place (assuming I would ever get picked) to any player who thinks that they can do a better job.  But would the PCS community on MH survive this?

At the end of the day I love PCS not CS.  That is where my loyalty lies......

The above post is not aimed at anyone in particular and is a random rant about whether we should be 'real serious' about matches.  If you disagree, please accept the whole post as complete bollicks and ignore me.

What he said^^^^^^^^^

Im in total agreement ..I really love the community that has been built up on MH i would hate to see it diminish as MH is the only server i ever play on if MH never used to be busy i would go to N42 or go and watch the TV.

I am also not saying i want to stop playing matches but plzz can we play someone crap just to get a win

Anyway seriously the way we are going we could set-up our own teams out of the clan and have matches between us once a week. What have we got now 23-24 mbrs thats 4 teams -- 6 per team.

Doorman

TeaLeaf you are of course, right. Tonight nothing we did made any difference. We were outclassed. Sad, but true. When even Frenzy had a tough day at the office, you've got to say they were good.
Thought!    Do you think we try too hard? A bit too desperate to win so that one's normal game takes a hike(I use 'we' in it's broadest sense in that I'm too new to know the traumas you've been through)
I'm sorry if I've opened any wounds
Really I'm just happy to be aboard.  :D

Doorman, thanks for your comments.  My post was not aimed at you or anyone else, it was more of a ramble.  The trouble is that if you look at the teams we have played since April 02, you would be hard pressed to find a team worse than the one we played last night.  It's been that tough a year.

Maybe we seek out lower teams for more of a game?  Maybe we challenge them to a game of MR12 PCS rules? Maybe we start sending out 2 teams - one for rotating the peeps like me who wouldn't make an 'best' team and another for the best match players.  We have enough players now.

I don;t know what the answer is, maybe we need to put our collective heads together and come up with some ideas...... Over to you team

Sending the best available team out to bat is the way to go. I KNOW I wouldn't be on it but we have, as you all know, a pool of really good players that would do us proud. (you know who you are) I'd be happy to bathe in the reflected glory and the guys who crave match play would get what they desire.
Don't get me wrong, the excitement of match play is very enjoyable so maybe there is a ladder or league us lesser mortals can particpate in.
The noble idea of giving everyone a turn in a team is fine in itself but if it leads to all this angst, should it be re-thought?

Oh, one more idea. How would it be if we had an in house ladder based on the teams we had for the match fest? Instead of doing it all in one go, spread it over whatever period of time. One a week say. Don't crash down on me, it was just an idea  :D
