Some really good points coming out of this topic (thanks for kicking it off Doorman).

Some observations to get the mental processes flowing:

We have 24 members.
We play ED matches on Wed & Sun.
We play UKCSL4u matches on Mon (season 1 is short and will end after 5 matches).
We have a second server allowing us to play matches at any time.
We have a strong administration backed up by dedicated and capable members.
We are slowly but surely finding our level within the ED ladder (51st at time of posting).

Options:

Form 'Squads' based on ability (could be divisive - who decides?)
Form 'Squads' based on availability (Monday Squad, Tuesday Squad etc)
Increase the number of ED matches played each week to allow for greater member participation.

Come on people. Let's hear your thoughts.

A weekly Meat Hook league is a great idea, as well as 24 members, allowing regulars would add a few more teams too.

As far as match play and winning and losing are concerned, having an internal league would allow players to get more match practice even the odd match with non-pcs rules could be introduced to make things a little different and help with dealing with league matches better. I can also suggest a few non-pcs servers if anyone wants to put themselves through pain (eh practice) for a bit:

198.247.231.2:27015 |uBc|Clay Pigeons

Actually this lot are of a high standard with some cracking players and have well enforced rules (both public!). No dodgy language or whinging permitted. It's easy to start with with scores along the lines of 0 - 10 on these server but percivere and you'll get near the top of the leader board after a while.

I had a massive reply drafted for this topic but I re-read it and it was mostly a load of bollox. It's not my place to comment on the mood in the camp and matches since I don't know how you are all feeling.
Cheers, Bert

I know it's not particularly PCS, but I have PsychoStats waiting in the wings if we're looking at choosing teams of the "best" players.  If necessary, this can be put on a pwd-protected (for team selection admins) page just to remove the temptation to peek...

stats mean nothing in match play ..... and i think quite damaging to PCS(avoid the frag monkeys).

I would like to see practice night / nights and the avalable people from the practice sessions should be picked to play the match there and then..

Nail, hit, head.

The Jolt CS league was a joke.

Division 5, and if I didn't know better, we were playing against robots :(

It seems we just dont fit in anywhere.

We whip the lower clans on tactics alone and they tend to just give up, but higher clans out-skill us, rendering tactics kinda useless.

At the end of the day though, I would rather stay as we are, rather than try to turn ourselves into a 'l33t' clan and recruit players based on skill alone.

EDIT: Lets play more ED games per week.

i agree
there are two ways at looking at this you either play matches to win full stop.(you always pick the best players avalible) or you play matches for fun and rotate the members so we/you all get to play.
iam new here so i thought i wouldnt be playin in matches cause i sux but after hearing that i would with the rota system i thought great fun fun fun
i played last night and to be honest i just followed orders by other team mates (i had a few ideas and i should have shouted up but i didnt being the new boy .nervous and all :-) ) but it wont happen again 8)

praccy nights agood idea if thats the way you all want to go i for 1 play here cause i enjoy the pcs way the matches are a bonus (for fun) if thats not what dmw want then we gota play less pcs :-(

QuoteIncrease the number of ED matches played each week to allow for greater member participation
thats prob the best way to go those who arnt so good (like me ) can then get to play reg while the top guns go do their stuff in the main arena

iam an admin on a server (a m8s its a us server but its there if you guys want to go and praccy matches noone gets on it that much in the early evening and if they do the regs there are very good 24.147.30.220:27015)
just a few thoughts form a newbie :D

One way of getting more prepared for matches is to pick the team at least one day in advance. Then go to the training server and just play the match map for 1-3 hours (yes a bit tireing). This would lead to that every player knew how to react to certain situations, where to be, and the team would work like a team more than 5 guys thrown into the grinder ...

Another suggestion ...
If possible one could assign 3 teams of 8 ppl that always play together. And then say that team 1 plays monday, 2 wednesday and 3 sunday.
E.g. I can't make it on mondays so I would be in team 2 or 3 ...

Well there are many ways to go about it ...

I like this idea .. it doesnt interupt the normal evening PCS games and gives people time to try out tactics without being interupted.

Good idea Sadako.

I know stats are a pain in the rear but they could play a part here. In addition to trying to fit people in based on what nite/nites they are available, stats could be used to parcel out the teams (the stats do not need to be public which avoids the frag monkey problem). What I'm getting at is let the stats show the Clan leaders how people perform and then they can put best three players  as man 1 in each team, next best three players as man 2 in each team, etc. That way we do not necessarily end up with strong and weak teams. it would also allow the teams to be shuffled around as required to cater for, say, a Man 2 being unavailable.

I really do not have a problem with being Man 99 by the way although I might balk at man 69  :o

I think an internal cup or league sounds a good idea, maybe split us in to 4 (so 6 man a team) but play 5v5 so we should have less of a problem with fielding teams.

Now as for the outside matches, I'm not sure how many people want to commit to a league with training. but say if we get 6 or 7 good players, that want to do that, let them enter UKcsl. with the people who just want the odd match fo fun play in ED against lesser teams down the ladder.

Dr Sadako

I think we should stay with the amount of matches as of now. Let us new guys get into the system and let us do some training on the common match maps before we decide to take on further matches.

I will probably be able to play only one match a week as I have to write my licenciate thesis the coming four weeks. So I might not be on as much as usual.
