QuoteAll you enthusiastic CZ players get ready to be amazed!

Why doesn't that fill me with excitement or confidence?  Oh wait its a valve product that would be why then!!

Hold on you tarts.

We all play a FREE mod for a £10, very dated game and love it. CZ is the new incarnation which rightly or wrongly valve have buggered around with. Lets not fall into the Microsoft trap - I hate it because I should -

CZ to me is a good step forward in the multiplayer sense, I think it will be around for a while, and I'm ready to give it the benefit of the doubt.

I've been trying to get on our CS:CZ server but it stops loading when it's half way. Trying to sort that first. I've reinstalled Steam and  CS and CS:CZ last night. CS is working as usual but CS:CZ not. Hopefully I have some this afternoon to look for a solution.  :(

I like the product but don't like valves way of doing things. Lets not forget all the problems we have had with steam.

I agree with everything you say... except the words.

CZ is a step nowhere. It doesn't move the game on or add to the experience in any way. It is  anattempt to provide a single player version of  Counter-Strike. In that respect it's a complete disaster of a game and deserves nothing but derision.

As a multiplayer game it adds absolutely nothing to CS that can't be duplicated for free with PODBot and CSRU etc. Conspiracy theories about Valve trying to wean us all of CS and onto a paying version aside, CZ was an utter pointless excerice. More so as it now seems clear that CS 2 (Source) is the most likely future for CS.

There I'm done  :D

Fairy muff.

Howabout, as they phase out support for CS I'm happy to have shelled out money so I can still play it, bug fixed (ish), updated and ready to go.

Steam has it's flaws, but it really is an ambitious step forward in the future of delivery.

I'm happy to agree to differ though. I'll even add a smilie so we are still friends. ;)

...and I couldn't agree more with Smilodon. My perception is that Valve want me to pay for something that i already have. Sorry, but I ain't gonna do that.

Zok

Well as you all know I have always been an ardent supporter of both steam and (especially) ConditionZero, so all I have to say is that I’m thoroughly looking forward to the next release and can’t wait until I get the bill for version 1.3.

I ask why they didn't just keep supporting CS 1.6 until the HL2 version of CS was ready?

I agree. Unfortunately, as we have all experienced, they cannot get it right. Any update over a few hundred kb seems to bring the system to it's knees at which point I find myself unable to play a game that i have paid for through no fault of my own. That is unacceptable in my book.

:) added 'coz I still luvs ya :D

I've got CS:CZ finally working. Another question tho: does any1 use Rzzhs helper on this thing? I can't get it to work. It works fine on CS but not on CS:CZ.

Benninio,

I agree with you in principle. There's nothing wrong with Valve knocking out a new version of CS and charging us for it. I don't expect a free lunch. So when CS2 comes out I'd expect to pay full price for it. I'd never want to pay for it by the month as you dow with a MMORPG, but it would be daft to expect Valve to release it for nothing.

I also don't have an issue with Steam. It's launch was a complete mess and felt like alpha software when it came out. But it's a sensible way to update and patch games and if you want to buy a game with no box, manual or original disk that you will never be able to sell or part exchange for another game, then fill your boots.

I just can't see the point of CZ. It's a shocking single player game and doesn't do anything for multiplayer except possibly split the CS community into two.

Just for you sweety

If nothing else CZ has provided funds to bolster the VAC team at Valve. I was one of the people who helped code csguard for those of you who have been playing long enough to remember that piece of anti cheat software.
Nothing since punkbusters arrival on the scene has caused as much trouble for cheaters as VAC is doing right now.

When CZ came out it was only cosmetically different to CS however with each update that is becoming more and more untrue. The new changes in AI run in line with Source and its AI system which looks like it set on the whole for a seemless (cough) conversion process. CSSource, looks more like CZSource if you look at it closely and make more sense from a business point of view.
CS has already fallen behind, all it gets is native HLDS updated now.

You have had your moneys worth out of a HL Mod. Join the new generation :D

QuoteCS-Nation: What kind of updates to the hostages do CS fans have to look forward to?
cliffe: The new hostage AI is something we are really excited about and can't wait to see the reaction from the community. Hostages can now crouch, use ladders, break windows, run, jump, etc. They can go just about anywhere you go. Showing emotion is another area we wanted to concentrate on. The hostages will fidget if bored and show fear when gunfire breaks out. In addition, the hostages will slowly try to escape if unguarded. The terrorists will have to keep a tight reign on the hostages by sticking close or finding the fleeing hostage, making him return to the terrorist base by intimidating him.

Now that I like.  :)
