Sheepy's first foray into Baldric with the Ghost squadron didn't work too well for a number of reasons but the main problem can be solved.

For reason best explained by Doggers; Baldric and Meat Hook have got their various configs 'shared'. This means that when you set up Baldric for an MR12 match it will lose all that information on it's next map change and revert to 'timed' rounds. :x

Baldric is only used for matches and the vast majority of those will be under standard MR12 configs. If it were running such a config 24/7 then it would only need to have it's map changed and rounds restarted. No other config changes are needed. Anyone with the appropriate password could drive the rcon commands to do that. This makes Adminmod, Clanmod and Statsme superfluous and, as such, they could be removed from Baldric to eliminate their part in the config mayhem.

If the above cannot be achieved then I think it would be worth changing both servers to MR12 configs.

Although I'm posting this here for all admins to see it is only 'Doggers the Wonder Op' who can sort out this tangle. For the sake of my sanity I hope it's soon. 8O

It's complicated. Both servers have their own configs; both servers operate independently; both servers share some of the mod configs.

Just to add a little confusion into my already spinning head, some bright spark decided to introduce a unified mod directory structure for new mods so that they would all conform to one standard directory structure.

Guess what? Not all mods conform to the unified mod directory structure yet. So some mods are called from server.cfg, some from server.cfg.27016 and some are called from metamod. This is why admin mod stopped working when I upgraded it to the latest version, but clan mod carried on regardless. Oh, and admin mod came with its own version of metamod buried in the setup script which overwrote the one that was working.

You want more? OK, the new admin mod throws out all the existing admin mod settings in server.cfg and server.cfg.27016, replacing them with settings that conform to the unified mod directory structure. Among these arbitrary changes is one that rewrites one of the variables used to identify and authorise admins. It doesn't even use the default one which was in the original config - they just added a nice new one to make sure that everyone's settings get fscked, not just the unfortunate souls who changed the default to something that made sense.

So if a server goes a bit strange, or if something stops working that previously worked and doesn't get fixed within 5 minutes, or if anyone wonders "Why doesn't Doggers volunteer himself for additional squad-leading/tactical-teaching/match-player-chasing/whatever-else-might-need-doing tasks?", now you know.

Oldie has a different problem to the one I have, but medical matters aside, I can use rcon commands when I am ON Baldric, but not when I am outside Baldric. Hence I had to jump into Baldric last night and masquerade as a Ghost for last night's match so that it could be admin'd. Oldie can't speak to Baldric at all - inside or outside , it won;t even say Boo to him

The problem only seems to have appeared yesterday - I am sure that it working earlier in the weekend.

And for the fix, over to you Doggers

Baldric is turning this clan into a laughing stock.

It has to be carefully setup for each and every match and, as TL found out last night, after every map change[1].

It infuriates both home and away teams with it's spamming (/switch does NOT stop it all).

Lastly, and most importantly, it kicks players for TK'ing irrespective of how the cvars are set (one of the mods doing it's thing no doubt). This cost us a player in one round last night when it was too late in the round to press the 'forgivetk' option. It won't be long before this costs us a match either by player-loss or by dispute. I for one don't look forward to that day.

Doggers - sorry old Chap but this one can only be sorted by you. Until you can get Baldric running a proper config fulltime then please make the following changes.

Please remove all mods from Baldric. They're not needed.
In the mr12.cfg file - change mp_maxrounds 12 to mp_maxrounds 20. This will result in admins only having to exec mr12.cfg once for each match. At the end of 12 rounds the score is recorded, teams swap sides and a restart is executed.

Finally, when's the rcon password on MH/Baldric going to be changed? The current password is well known outside of the admins and, after more mod madness, even outside of the clan FFS.

Disgruntled of Dagenham (Burwell actually but it don't sound as good).

[1] The server is setup by exec'ing the MR12 config file. This changes lots of cvars to be compliant with both Clanbase and ED rules. These changes are lost after every map change so requiring another exec of the config.

i have no idea if it works because I can't log on and edit the configs at the same time. you all can help by posting complaints/rant/whatever you feel like.

n.b. try not to include anything helpful - stuff like "it's not working" is usually enough to keep me happy for a few hours at a time. if you want to play one of those jokes i like so much, try changing your own configs as well.

if i do manage to get something working, feel free to change your requirement for the configs - 2 mins before a vital clan match is a good time to tell me.
