Dr Sadako

I am just wondering if the tournament is possible to have with all the server trouble we are having? Do we have any ideas what it could be? What theories are we working by?

We have ruled out that it is AMX right?
Is it hardware related?
Is it steam related?
We had problems way back with a switch and we had similar problems or am I wrong?
Could it be a NIC acting up?

I don't want to sound negative I just want to know what the status of things is.

Just curious.

The last thing we tried was:
  • Run a single server.
  • Remove all plugins from that server (Metamod and AMXX).
  • Stop the webserver.
  • Stop the forums.
  • Stop the anti-virus.
We still had lag. This, in my mind, eliminated the server. We know that it's not a Steam issue because no-one else was screaming in the Steam forums. This leaves the network elements.

TeaLeaf and I have asked Stryker to investigate.

No response as yet.

Thanks.

I also have noticed that I have lag spikes when you don't have and vice versa. I seem to lag simultaneously to DuVeL and Ice (overseas) and you UK guys don't.

I don't know if that helps in anyway?

Not really, it is something we have pointed out to Stryker already.  Matters are out of our hands really atm.

I did a ping plot all evening last week and never saw a bad ping all night but the lag was still obviously there. It just seems to display 300ms + ping in game and freeze. That points to server issues but as you guys haev said, the server has been stipped bare. I suppose trying another physical server is out of the question? That's the only way to eliminate the server completely.

It could be a duplex or speed mismatch, I've seen sporadic issues eriodically on networks that have a switch and NIC out of sync. Or, as it seems to happen at certain interval is could be a routers doing some number crunching ever 2 minutes say, link recalculating a large routing table, sending out updates for QoS, IPX (not likely that specifically) or automatic access lists etc. It certainly points to one network device or server running a processor intensive job periodically.

That has also been mentioned.  At the moment it is probably out of the question, but we'll see.

Can i just point out that we never had ANY lag spikes today during the Tounament.

Are the issues with LAG gone or because it was sunday and Crosswired wasn't busy?

It's gone ... for now.[1]

It appears that when TeaLeaf asked Stryker to investigate why his company email was failing, it involved a problem with a Crosswired DNS server. When this was re-booted, the lag disappeared.

[1] We still have DNS problems on Blackadder - hence no VAC.

We have tried to contact Stryker about the lack of DNS on BA, let's just say that it is WIP for the time being.  I'll chase him by telephone later today.
