I can now 'see' our CS:S server OK and can issue commands to it but can't get the logaddress to play ball  :(

me too

What logaddress and port do you have in server config file. My CS1.6 server has:

logaddress 127.0.0.1 20000

and using the loaddress command against meathook I get:

19:24:46 logaddress:  usage
         logaddress ip port
         current:  82.41.77.21:7130

Oh and from the HLSW change log:

1.0.0.31-beta
Fixed Doom3 start parameters
Included HL2 query
Included Counter-Strike Source Beta support
BugFix: HLSW didn't restore icq, irc, etc. states when he tries to start a game but an error occurs
Included "Use a different port for every server" option in settings.
HL: Added a MetaMod tab to rcon section
HL2: Included fundamental rcon support

There are no specific logaddress entries in our server.cfg

I use 7130 successfully to MH etc. but CS:S not happy :(

7130 is the client logaddress (I get to mine on that port too) but each server should run its log on a port.

TBH I think it defaults to 20000 and I was just being uber careful.

Interestingly, looking at the CS:S cvars mentioned in the recent thread the command for CS:S seems to be log_addaddress which I assume is a typo of log_address. Maybe HLSW is expecting a logaddress parameter and CSS is giving a log_address response

Who knows.

Interestingly, if you do RCON status from HLSW to the CS:S server it works :) Stats are presented in quite a different way too and shows data rates out/in for the individual players!

The strangest thing is the player ident. It appears that each player has the following ident string:

X:Y:player_name

Where X is the slot (whatever that is???) and Y is the ID.

What pisses me off is that I can only kick players by their player_name, not by ID. Well not by any combos I've tried anyway.

We had a player on this evening with a player_name written in Arabic. Try kicking him off the server
