After today's fun-filled tournament, spare a thought for the victims of the earthquake-caused tsunami that has killed an estimated 23,000+ people. :(

Just shows that no matter how strong we think we are: nature's stronger.

My thoughts to those affected by this.

My brother has inlaws in Phuket, so Christmas this year has been a 'nightmare'. Happily they are OK, although fairly traumatised. I read about these disasters in the papers and see the images on the TV, but until I was personally involved (even if indirectly) it never seemed that real. Sort of like watching a movie? That may mean I'm a bit shallow, I don't know. Now though, it's very different :(

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

It was reckoned the waves were over 30ft high and were travelling at around 300mph. I can't imagine what it must have been like to go through somethinmg like that so my thoughts are definately with all that have been affected by this tragedy.

Over 84,000 I believe but as you might imagine that will rise. Thailand says that almost all of the 6,000 people missing are probably dead :(

DuVeL

I allready heard a larger number on the TV here. There seems to be someone missing from my hometown aswell. I know the son of the woman that's missing. I didn't know it got so close to me.

I have found this image which gives you some idea about how quickly it all happened and the area that is affected.

Excuse my ignorance, but why has there been no mention of Bangladesh.  They must have been hit hard. They flood every year, this must have devasted them? Or were they lucky, or am I stupid?

According to BBC Website 2 people have died in Bangladesh. I think that their coastline might have been sheltered by the islands to the north of Indonesia (see GFKs map)

BBC Map of affected area

Dr Sadako

They were hit but apparantly not that bad. Bangladesh is as far north you can get and in the way of the Tsunami wave were the Adaman and Nicobar islands.

Well, you can see it in the image above posted by GFK.
