VAC 2 Coming Next Week?

Counter Hack has received word from a Valve employee about the release of Valve Anti Cheat 2 "sometime next week". According to said employee, this would be the official release, not simply a beta build. As if that wasn't enough, VAC 2 "also will be ten times more aggressive than the original VAC".

But a recent chat with my friend that works at Valve said that to expect a release sometime next week. VAC 2 also will be ten times more aggressive than the original VAC for half-life, and will also be equipped with all the recent cheat detection system. Although I was able to talk to him he didn't give me much info, but VAC 2 will be an actually release not a BETA that VAC 1 was.

I myself would like to see VAC 2 instantly ban hackers. But it is good to see steam is trying their hardest to try to ban the steam accounts that are reported. If you happen to get the STEAM ID of the hacker you could email steam and they will look into the problem and with success ban the account. Until then reporting it to steam is that only way to fight "The War against Hackers". Also expect a steam update sometime next week for VAC 2's release.

The clock is ticking for some.

I do like the sound of 'aggresive' . I would like to see more 'aggresive' refereeing, I would like to see more 'aggresive' sentencing of yobboes and more 'aggresive' immigration policy. But I guess it's easier to be 'aggresive' in a computer game than IRL. /me stands by for incarceration by the thought police

From Alfred Reynolds:

QuoteAs most of you know, VAC2 has been in beta for a few weeks. We're
nearing release, but we need lots of servers to run the beta right now
in order to complete our testing.

VAC2 is a significant overhaul of the Valve Anti-Cheat system. Its
release is going to be a major event in the community, so your help
during the beta will be much appreciated.

>From experience, we know that the members of this mailing list will
provide us with better feedback than we'll be able to get elsewhere. We
need as many of you as possible to start running your servers with the
VAC2 beta code turned on. Once you've started doing so, please send us
any and all trouble reports by reporting them to this list.

Instructions:
The VAC2 beta functionality is already included in both the Source and
HL1 dedicated server, just ensure you have the most recent update by
running the hldsupdatetool.

In order to turn it on, simply restart your server and add " -vacbeta"
to your the command line.

We're primarily dealing with connection issues at this point. This means
that if you choose to run your server using the VAC2 beta, a small
number of users could have trouble connecting to your server. We are
particularly interested in hearing about any issues regarding connection
problems.

Things to watch for:
- "No Steam Logon" errors reported by clients. If a user gets this
consistently across a couple day period then get them to go to our
support site for help.
- "steamclient.dll not found, server communication disabled." printed
out on startup. For linux users make sure you have at least GLIBC 2.3.2
or above. You also need to allow outbound UDP traffic on port 27014 from
your server. If you do have the correct GLIBC version or run under win32
then contact me to debug the problem.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the heads-up RB.

Our public server will be testing this.

They just had a guy who posted to the HLDS list asking to 'fix the problem' of him being banned.  The admin 'tear a guy a new hole' posts have begun.  He posted at 3a.m. and there are 18 replies so far.
