We are currently in discussion with a supplier to allow a range of computer hardware to be available for order at LAN VII at specially discounted prices.  In order to help us pull together a list of components that you might like to see on special offer please could you reply to this thread with ideas for the specific hardware that you would like to see on the special offer list.

As a starter, I would like to see offers on the following:
  • A meaty and adjustable rail PSU
  • Offers on OCZ memory
  • 64-bit CPU/mobo/RAM upgrade package
How about you?  What would you like to see on special offer?

If we get a decent list together and reach agreement with the supplier then as well as attendees being able to place orders for the kit at LAN VII, those that are not going may wish to place their order via someone who *is* going!   Or you could always book a place and attend the LAN anyway ;)

How 'special' will the offer on the memory be???

£?

a meaty graphics card or two ... 9800pro, and/or maybe a 6600-6800 GT?

64-bit cpu/mobo/ram sounds tasty too :D

I was planning an upgrade later in the year when prices have smoothed but might be sorely tempted if the equipment available comes with silent options (I'm rather a big fan of quiet computing now...)

Doris, we could tell you now, but then we'd have to kill you. :norty:

We need to work on the terms Doris, but rest assured they will be good.  When we get a list of products together we can then discuss terms with the supplier and maybe come back with something more concrete.  And remember, expressing an interest here is a product is not commiting yourself to a purchase, it's simply helping us to compile a list of products that the supplier could then consider when we next speak to them.

TL wonders why people don't read the very first post in the thread properly :(

When the list is compiled you will have the opportunity of getting someone to place an order on your behalf..............or we may make other arrangements.

A good fast 17" LCD display. Like one of the Benq or Iiyama's out there. Cheap XP chips, high quality twinned RAM chips 1GB or higher. Anything like that as long as the prices beats Overclockers and they are ready to use at the start of the LAN.

Should we be placing an order so whoever supplies this stuff will make sure they have it for the LAN? Last thing I'd want is someone to make the effort to bring along some gear to sell and it's not wanted.

Eg.

IIyama ProLite E435S-S 17" LCD Monitor - Silver (MO-034-IY) Price:  Â£167.50   (£196.81 Including VAT at 17.5%)
IIyama ProLite E435S-S 17" LCD Monitor - Black (MO-028-IY) Price:  Â£167.50   (£196.81 Including VAT at 17.5%)
BenQ FP767-12 17" LCD Monitor (MO-004-BQ) Price:  Â£156.95   (£184.42 Including VAT at 17.5%)
Benq FP71E+ 17" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-006-BQ)  Price:  Â£225.00   (£264.38 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Beat the Overclockers prices then I'd buy definately.

CPU

AMD Athlon "Barton" XP3200+ 400FSB (Socket A) CPU - OEM (CP-058-AM)
Price:  Â£72.95   (£85.72 Including VAT at 17.5%)

RAM

Corsair 1GB DDR XMS4400 TwinX (2x512MB) CAS2.5 (TWINX1024-4400C25PT) (MY-068-CS)  Price:  Â£159.95   (£187.94 Including VAT at 17.5%)

 ;)
Cheers, Bert

GhostMjr

ddr 400 ram (range of slots eg 256 pairs, 512 pairs and 1gb pairs)

top end graphics cards eg x800 and 6800 series

usb flash drives if possible

cheap hard drives ;)

Thanks

The initial aim was to have a price list from which people could order at the LAN for delivery afterwards.  If we get the list organised early enough (and therefore have agreed prices which would allow people to confirm some orders and pay for them before LAN VII) then we could arrange delivery before or at the LAN.

My intention in these discussions was not to force a supplier to bring a load of gear to a LAN for people to peruse as this would cost the supplier a lot in both time and money.  However the compilation of a list of popular hardware and a special price at which they would sell it is something that does not carry the same overhead.  The aim would be to provide goods at a 'best' market price.

The contents of this thread will be used to pull together a list of products that can be offered at a special LAN VII price, so please be as specific as possible for things you want to see priced up.

So, I'll go back to the supplier and discuss with a list that looks something like this:
  • PC3200 or higher RAM (range of sizes eg 2x256MB, 2x512MB and 2x1GB pairs, dual channel capable) (OCZ or Corsair)
  • Graphics cards: X800 and 6800 series
  • USB flash drives - 1GB or bigger
  • HDDs
  • TFT Monitor - either Benq or IIyama (I'll suggest 17" or 19" and would personally love to know what a decent response 19" with native 1600x1200 would cost :norty:)
  • A meaty and adjustable rail PSU
  • 64-bit CPU/mobo/RAM upgrade package
  • CPUs - XP3200 or faster (and Intel equivalent)
I'll see what can be arranged and will report back.

dunno if it's too late or if this is not in keeping with the idea, but some slightly cheaper (hence probably lower-spec) components might round out the list? a sort of budget upgrade path?

AMD 64 3000 or 3200 winchester cpu (approx 66% of the 3500 price on the ocuk pricelist) with a suitable low-noise HSF? A lower budget 1Gb DDR package closer to the £100 mark? I imagine it might be CAS2.5, or a "less-reliable" manufacturers CAS2, but again I'm sure it can be done. OcUK do a 1Gb dual channel (Geil) 3200 cas2 pair for £135?

Perhaps in a budget performance bundle that's closer to £250? e.g. 1Gb cheap CAS2 pc3200, amd 64 3200+, a motherboard that doesn't necessarily support SLi if that makes it any cheaper/faster, as those opting for the cheaper upgrade path will probably not be able to afford that luxury for years ;)

I'm thinking for those of us that would like some faster memory/components but aren't planning to overclock and have tight wallets, therefore can do without the overheads that products like OCZ will allow? ;)

I have passed this request on and will post anything I get back into the price list thread.
