Here is a copy of an email I received today



Funny, I thought. What made me suspicious was the account it was sent to. My bank have no knowledge of this account! I clicked the link and guess what?



That looks so real it's frightening. Till you look at the url. Bastards!

Thieves are becoming very good at conning the average consumer and yes i agree Ron this is an issue which needs to be sorted out. Recently i received emails from ebay in my email account of which they have no record of. I was directed to  a page which was simliar to your findings which showed a very realistic portrayal or copy infact of the ebay website for me to sign in. The usual rules apply if you don't think the email is legit report it. I always report my ebay one's as the culprits can be caught. Also keep a close eye on the url as this is sometimes an obvious give away.

unfortunately HSBC do not have an email address to report phishing...they have a land-line :eyebrow:  <_<

I've had a few of these supposedly from HSBC and a few other banks to confirm my details.

The big giveaway for me was that I don't have any accounts with them, as you've already said I tried to do my bit for internet security and went to the real site to look for an address to forward the email on to and found that they didn't offer that service.

I think all of the others I look for did have one.

I have an account with HBOS and they regularly send out emails reminding you that you should always access their site through the correct URL and never click on login links in emails, eBay/PayPal do the same

I've had a couple made to look like HBOS (again on accounts that aren't my registered one), reported them through their email system and received a response, at least it makes you a feel better that they do actually collate them (possibly).

I phoned HSBC and told them but they said they'd had a lot of reports from customers and they are 'on the case'. Yeah right.

we get literally hundreds of those things come in a day here. What is really funny though is that most are for non existant e-mail addresses so they just end up in the admin box
