I did too, and got my self a DBE. I'm finished with grinding.
I will join you some time to find out more about Powerplay. When is the official weekly ED night?
Anyway will try to be on tonight a bit, as I am "home alone".... :-)
Thanks

I decided top build myself a decent mining ship...
Que federal dropship http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=704,0_g0_gmpUH9WH9W5TQ5Rs5Rs,2-A0A07_8SA06u6k,0AA08c08c7go0a65Sc03w

The price is a bit high at 31mil creds, but you can get something similar with an Asp, if your creds dont stretch that far.http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=70g,0__0__0__0__H7yH7y5QS5QS5Rr5Rr,2-8S8S7_6u6u8S8I,0AA08c7Pc5Sc0a603w03w This will set you have 15mil, and is a pretty decent ship. you can change the mining lasers to class 2, and this will alow for faster mining, but i suspect you`d have to upgrade the power distributor also to handle the load.

I did the mining belt in our home system, and got about 185k of minerals in a few hours of messing about, which is a LOT more than any previous outings, although there seems to be an issue with the collector drones dying after 1 load.

So i then decided to head out to Disci, and jump in to the low intensity RES, i dropped out 40k from the action and gradually worked my way inward....
There a LOT of rock, thus much faster mining (i have 2x 2D mining lasers) and the cargo was racking us fast (was).. as i got closer to the action i saw several fights breaking out...
Then it happened... a Python and 2 viper buddies decided i looked tasty! Cue a 5 min fight, dropped shields and damaged hull, cargo hatch- they went straight for the cargo (greedy they are).

So things calmed down, then another python decided i`m on the menu...i decide to try and leg it, as my hull is beat up and the cargo hatch is nearly dead, cue dead cargo hatch, and loss of several thousands of minerals!

Three (3) fed Anacondas jumped in and helped me kill the git.

Overall mined was about 140k, but about 80k was rescued, but i got 285k off bounties :P

Moral of the experience, do not go alone, or if you do, stick to the outer limits of the RES - as in 40k past the jump point!
For those who want to try it- take a LOT of limpets, i didn't bother with the prospector so i could naab +4 tons.

If we decided to go in as a wing, i recommend a min size ship of an asp, due to cargo restrictions.
If you decide to bring an Anaconda to the fight, make sure you have a 4A refinery + 3A Limpet controller, as it only takes 1 ship to blast the ore off, and the big ship is a tight squeeze in the rocks.
So there is a Lot of cash to be made off bounties and ore!

Edit: There are some SERIOUS rewards for finding certain ores, the price is usually about 10x the normal value!
I was asked to find 4 tons of Osmium (only found from mining), which is worth 28k, and they offered 296k for it! There is also some mission for find paladium, but this is easy to find, although the smaller stations usually stock it, and again i landed about 600k for several tons (3 missions) as well as making profit off trading with the station.

So CHECK out the bulletin board before you wander off into the void!

So yes, your mining ship will cost a damn fortune, but if we teamed up and jumped into a RES, we could make a serious killing (literally) off ore and bounties, but this is the reason why i made a damn hard ship to mine with, as i had a suspicion that the RES mining would be tough, just not that tough due to the huge armour boost to all ships!

Following on from Ranaulf's advice, the missions to take 3 or 4 Palladium or Osmium to earn 300K are generally handed out by the local factions, independent especially I noticed. This only became obvious because they were off limits to me as the missions required friendly or allied status which I obviously have by default with the 3 major factions. So if you want lots of good missions, try and not annoy anyone in the homeworld.

Since i have defected to the Disney princess, i decided that i would like to have a higher rank (now Viscount), there are rumors that the larger ships (Corvette and Imp Cutter) require a high rank in order to unlock them- which actually makes a lot of sense.
Cutter- Rank req: Duke
Corvette- Rank Req: Read Admiral
I have done a LOT of smuggling and fetch me this item missions. However after reading a post today about, it appears that FD have moved the goal posts... and the football pitch is now 200 miles long...

A very informative piece from Kobune about the ranking system
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165258

And a nice way to accelerate your rank, if you have sufficient cash from Samosa.
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=164309

It seems that FD have implemented a hidden rank system, as explained in link 1. And that after patch 1.3 they "fixed" the bugged rankings, but there are still a lot of accounts out there that are bugged, and it is recommended that you contact FD to ask about your account status if you fail to rank up.
This is a very frustrating process, as doing a few hundred charity missions only to discover your rank is locked, due to a bug... is not very user friendly :/

Either way i thought i would share this information with you about the ranks and rumors of the ships locked behind them

Fly safe out there.

I also found this handy guide, looks like Alioth was a good place to get a permit!
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=122593

Additionally i have ranked up to King with the Empire now, by running missions out of FEHU.
For Federation rep i run missions out of ROBIGO.

Please note Robigo is an outpost, and thus only small or medium ship allowed.

Hi All,

I found this site that might give some of us who are clueless about Engineers in the game a starting point:

http://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers

It seems a very useful way to level up with engineers is to give them exploration data. 500K of data can get you to lvl3 without even ordering an upgrade.

Also you have different jobs to do to also level up, like bounty vouchers for gunnery upgrades. etc.

So I did about 600K worth of exploration and handed this in with the Engineer, Elvira and I reached 76% into Level 2 with her. Seems this is going to be a grind. I then have to find lots of materials, I have enough for a Level 2 FSD but want level 5 so need to go mine, buggy and wake scan.

Felicity Farseer is far more receptive to Exploration data and offers most of the same modifications as Elvira.

Also, on her station you can buy Class 2 & 3 Enhanced Thrusters without having to unlock them. That 800m/s Sidewinder could be yours...

Might seem like a botch job but for sure having another dozen buttons on your HOTAS is a win all round for space games.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/5q10vr/cheapest_hotas_modification_ever/

The likelihood of your controller having enough keys for s sim is low, get a dozen or so more cheaply is a win all round.

Speaking of mods for joystick based games. I have a setup where I have 2 of these: http://cpc.farnell.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?pageSize=25&st=pro+signal+pole+mount&catalogId=15002&categoryId=700000007652&langId=69&storeId=10180 so it clamps onto the arm of the chair and the plate faces upwards then has strong velcro to hold the controllers in place.

I was thinking of getting some sort of shelf that I could place on the plates rather than have the sticks permenantly on there and it would allow me to place a mouse or keyboard on the shelf and make it easier to reach these when in game.

Anyone know of a lap tray or lightweight shelfing material that has a soft surface?

I keep looking at buying a BBI-32, you can then basically do anything you want to build and make up different configs.

It basically gives you the ability to build anything with up to 32 binary inputs, so buttons, rotary encoders or switches.

If you google it there are plenty of SIM sites out there with peoples own projects.

Me too. However, I'm hoping that a combination of Roccat Power Grid and Voice Attack will negate the need to have something as industrial as that.

I think the trouble I have with voice attack is a) the wife takes the p!ss out of me when I'm speaking into it and b) if I've got a mouth full of nuts or a beer happening it's tricky. Oh and it struggles with my slurring Scottish droll. :)

I bought a skate board deck today. I'll be trying to use this as a platform for my flight gear onto my VESA mounts on the arms of the chair. I was just passing a skater shop in Amsterdam and I thought why not, they're thin, strong and light, and wide enough to give plenty space plus slightly curved so stuff won't fall off it easily. â,¬30, a lot cheaper than a posh gaming lap desk and a lot better finished than a piece of nasty MDF.

I plan on having Joystick1 -- Game Claw -- Tablet with Power Grid -- Mouse -- Joystick2 all on the board tonight :D

My Thrustmater HOTAS X (cheapo stick, bought for £40 a few years back) has enough buttons IF you use the majority of the buttons on the throttle as modifiers for the flight stick.
The problem I have now is one of memory :)
