Day of Defeat: Source will be released this month. While we're not quite ready to pin down the exact date of when it will be available to play, we are confident that it will happen in September. Once we do have an exact date and time for when the game will be activated, we'll let everyone know.

There will be a period of one week at minimum during which people will be able to pre-order and preload the game via Steam, giving them the ability to unlock and play at the moment it is activated.

Day of Defeat: Source will be available as an individual purchase via Steam, as well as part of the Counter-Strike: Source retail package that will be available at stores around the same time. Half-Life 2: Silver and Gold package customers will automatically be able to play.

Im looking forward to its release :) pld DoD since beta. Great game and i believe the scale increase capabilities will improve gameplay using HL2 Engine to its 'fullness' :P

Day of Defeat®: Sourceâ,,¢ (DoD: Source), the latest version of the WWII online action game from Valve®, will be made available to gamers everywhere on September 26.

"Day of Defeat has quietly been one of the most played online action games for the past three years," said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. "Day of Defeat: Source represents a major leap forward in both graphics and gameplay, and pushes the Source engine harder than any other Source project. "

DoD: Source takes the classic teamplay of DoD and expands the experience with Source, the engine technology Valve created for Half-Life® 2 and it's next generation of games. With this technology, DoD: Source offers state of the art graphics with optimized versions of popular maps and all new player, weapon and world models, plus support for HDR lighting.

DoD: Source leverages the power of the Source engine by introducing advanced sound technology to provide a more immersive soundscape and integrated physics simulation technology for ragdolls and physically simulated objects throughout each map.

Available via Steam for just $19.95 and in the Counter-Strike: Source retail package, DoD: Source is a rebuild from the ground up of Day of Defeat on the Source engine.

DoD: Source will be available for pre-load and pre-order next week. Those who purchased the Half-Life 2 Silver or Gold Steam offers will receive a request to pre-load the game at this time and will receive access to play the moment the game is made available.

Personally i am going to wait as i bought the bronze edition, which means some of the valve back catalogue is missing i.e. Half-Life Source and now Day of defeat and in the near future aftermath and lost coast. So i am going to hold on until they are out. I do wish i bought my original package on steam though and got the silver version and not the bronze one from my local Game store as silver steam customers seem to be getting everything free

yes - I'm finding the amount they want us bronze HL2 customers to pay for the extra addons is exorbitant comparatively!

.. and what is that amount? I cannae find it on Steampowered.

edit: aha - didn't realise there was reading involved

Steam Silver package owners arnt getting things "free" as its far more expensive then the bronze edition.

Also DoD original, was actually sold in stores :)

Im primarily looking forward in seeing how the Source engine has been used to its greatest extent.

quite so, and CZ is what, another £15? All those other addons etc...
I bought the DVD version as I like having the disc on hand, but they really have lumbered us with inconveniences...We have to put the disc in to play. One would have thought logging in was enough, but noooooo. Then we have to pay for any other addon. Not £5 but £20. I'd understand if the bronze pack was £25, silver £50, and addons were a fiver or tenner apiece to those owning bronze. but it just doesn't make sense. It's almost more worth buying HL2 silver rather than the addons and thereby owning two copies of the damn game. Here's hoping BF2 remains the top game... grrr

I got T'd off having to put the DVD in ages ago so I bought the Silver pack so I guess I just preempted what I would have ended up having to do (bunch of money grabbing gits)

Maus

Two (point two) thoughts:

1) They patched out needing the DVD in to play
2) They intentionally made retail less appealing because of the Valve/Vivendi thing - Valve wanted everyone to buy it through Steam
2.2) Therefore, those of us who bought HL2 retail (for whatever reason - I bought it because I had dialup at the time and downloading 2Gb wasn't going to happen) kind of got screwed.
