BF2 Troubleshooting

Solutions for BF2:
-Patch up drivers on soundcard and graphicscard;
-Install latest BF2patch (also needed after installing SF or PRMM);
-Shut down your firewall when playing BF2 (background problems like F@H can cause failure);
-Make sure your card/monitor can allow 800x600 @60Hz to run. Reason being is that BF2 must start at this res/refresh rate the first time it starts.
-Make sure nothing is overclocked and that memory settings are allocated in BIOS using SPD. Additionally, if your graphics card uses a 4pin molex power connector in addition to the power from the AGP slot then make sure nothing else is using the same power rail.
-Delete the cache files in your BF2 folder and let BF2 recreate them. The files will be in the following location:
 
C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\
 
where is replaced with your xp user name
 
Delete all folders in that location - they will be recreated when BF2 starts.
 
-Install the older drivers. Someone installed older Nvidia drivers and after that it worked.
-Delete the temporary user files in 'My Documents, "your PC account name", Battle Field 2' It'll recreate these when it starts again. If you want to be safe rename the BF2 directory and try again.
-Reinstall the latest patch, it worked for me, I've allready installed it but repatch worked really good;
-Make sure you're running DirectX 9.0c (or the latest version)
-Go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com and check that your OS is upto date
-Check that you have the latest BIOS, and device drivers - because this is probably a low-level issue.
-Run the game with the +fullscreen 0 flag so you can see error messages
-Check the Power supply to the vid card...or the power supply in general

Make sure your running the correct memory timing/settings ie not too aggressive.

My recent build of a new pc highlighted how important this was. My pc simply wouldn't boot and would often restart or get the BSOD, changing memory from Auto detect to SPD, choosing correct voltage and changing from 1T to 2T solved the problem.

And yes, memory timings! A tweaked timing might allow you to boot and surf the net, but games like BF2 are very demanding and could lead to a crash. So always try and set back your timings to something within specs.


This is more performance tweaks, don't know if you want those, but here goes:

Completely deactivate antivirus (this is also in the manual)

Unload what you can from the traybar

"You may want to try running a defragment of your hard drives, as some people have reported their hard drives becoming quite fragmented after install."

"Another note is that the Data Verification process is very Hard drive dependant, so if you have other programs accessing the hard drive while playing BF2, things are going to slow down."

After suffering EXCRUCIATING lag or whatever (jerk'o'vision) on my last couple of outings I came upon this little gem
I did the AGP aperture thing, the .exe renaming thing and the high priority thing. Went on TG and spent an hour of silky smooth gaming.    I'm keen to find out if it's like that on Meatyfellah.

Try Doormans link in the first post, I think this might help your problem out the most (the rest isn't relevant for you I think).
I haven't done all the stuff that was suggested as mine was working after reinstalling the patch.

i'm having problems putting prmm file in, i've downloaded it and extract it to my caches folder on bf2 but is this correct cause i can't join the poe server cause it keeps on saying that i haven't got the correct mod?:blink:

Righty, well, I decided to go and buy BF2, ( But everytime I start it up,  I get past the intro move. ( movie clip) Then I get to the part JUST before the menu, ( It's the part when the menu is loading, It's all fuzzy sorta. (( It's ment to be like that. ))
 And then.. I get this: "VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands"

Now, I just need to know what to do. I've tryed setting the Screen res to 800x600, but it doesn't seem to help at all.
Does this mean I need a new GFX, or something else? Because my RAM and Proccesor meet the requirements, so.. Could someone help me PPPPLLLEEAAASSSEE!.. :crying:  Umm, go on then get to it, HELP ME!
