Quote from: Gnomie;2972411) The arm should be pretty long so that I can pivot it from my racing rig to my desk
2) The joint where the monitors attach to the arm should also allow rotation
3) The monitors should be able to go from a 45 degree angle (for racing) to a straight configuration (for my desk)

Gnomie, have you felt the total weight of three monitors matey? I cant believe how tight ALL my brackets etc had to be to stop them creeping forward and the whole racepit creeks when they go on thier pole:blink:. I know yours will be hanging down but the monitors will still try and tilt forward when you put them at 45 degrees'. It was the biggest problem i had to sort out from the whole build of mine. My frame setup now is about plan G, :lmfao:.
I can see your idea but i reckon it would have to be quite a big solid thing to keep the twisting in check. There again, your screens might be super lightweight. Good luck:)

Yeah I know... these buggers are heavy! :sideways: I plan to deal with the worst of it using using a steel wire to support the arm. That way the arm can actually be quite weak, since the wire will support the weight and the beam will only be in compression.

But, like you say, the holders need to be very solid too.. I'm planning to use some heavy-duty door hinges, kind of like these:

I also have plans for how to allow the monitors to slide left/right as I change the angle between them from 0 to 45 degrees.. (otherwise there will be big gaps between them, which isn't nice..) but the details for this are only in my head ATM.

I got my 3-screen setup yesterday, and I'm pleased to say it is up and running. Very tight fit to get the HD5870 in to the case though. It's very big.

I have tried it both in LFS and iRacing. FPS is much lower now than with the 9800 and single screen, but that is due to CPU limitations. Still I got 60-90 with 15 people in the Corvette at Mosport. I think I can live with that for a while. My MB does not OC well so I guess I will start hunting for a new Mainboard and CPU too....:D

No pictures, its just 3 HP screens on my desk. No fancy cockpit or anything.

Here is a few vids of how it looks.

I seem to remember that you had one of those HD 5000 cards too. You need two more monitors with the same resolution that the one you have. And one of them need to have Displayport input. A displayport cable and you are set.

Yes I have a 5870, but I'm not inclined to buy 2 more 22" widescreens. The acreage they'd take up!
I have to say that that's the best example of showing how three screens work I've seen. I'm impressed. :)

Man I'm so jealous, you're video's are superb :)
You're talking about you're current CPU being a bottleneck, may I ask what kind of specs are you currently running on?

I stumbled over this when trying to improve my FF/input lag. I even think it works!

Right click the sim .exe file and select properties. Select the Compatibility tab and check the box for ââ,¬Å"Disable desktop compositionââ,¬Â

Hope it helps for you too.

Hmm, interesting. I can't say I've ever noticed any input lag in my sims but I guess it can't hurt to disable the desktop composition. Thanks for the tip :)
