windows validation

Hello,
 
I got a question about the windows validation.(a bit of a noob with these kinda things).
I validated my windows version (windows media centre edition) and now i am trying to download updates. However it says my windows is not validated. and i cannot get the updates.
What did happen here and how can i help this problem? If anyone know an answer to this plz share it with me

I think theres a update you need to dl, its called something like the windows validation tool or something if I recall, from the windows updates page, once its happy your not trying to rip Bill off they'll let you at the rest of the updates.

Dunno if thats right or not, but its what happened to my dad, he was on a dodgy version & thus couldn't update (he's now a good boy btw, just so you can all rest at ease)

It only applies if your are trying to manually download the updates from microsoft.
 
If you switch on auto updates then it will still downoad the new updates without going through the validation process.
 
Which kind of makes the validation kinda pointless....

The thing is, the process of validating is not that well designed. You might think you have completed the proces but no, you have done the update in the form of downloading the program that validates your version. Try and run update again? Might do the trick - it fooled me.. not that it counts for much :dummy:

There's plenty of noise about this problem on the interweb, particularly affecting Media Centre PCs.

Ring MS Support and complain.

Ringing them is i think the only option there was a free email service for windows update but despite my problems i can't get through to the right department. I choose windows update from the page of products and then i get an automated message from a customer services person teling me my support options. I.e. phone newsgroups etc. I tried to ask for an email address to her manager to complain and have even tried the email address webmaster@microsoft.com to try and report the email routing problem. It may of course be deliberate but its rather annoying and no i am not ringing them up :angry:. There support i remember a few years back had unlimited support requests but with xp we only get two free help requests and i suspect if i ask for help via these means i will get a customer services person not interested in readin my reply simply clicking an auto email reply to my query.:thumbsdown:

Just off topic: NEVER updating your windows = Win. My windows never crash or freeze, DONT UPDATE! ^^.

I myself have a slipstreamed version that deadalus made for me with all updates in it allready so no worry's from uncle bill nagging

heres the ultimate tip: when sending a complaint.. forget emails (many companies kinda ignore emails), the real deal is a FAX message from a company/work
