Is there anything being done to try and resolve the lag/choke issues on Boomer/Meathook that we've had over the last few weeks?

I've been trying different networks settings to try and lighten the load that has to be transmitted but the problem is not at the server end, the problem is the poor routes from London into our hosts.

Oh and would whoever keeps stopping the clock.avi on the server please leave it alone as I have found it stopped twice in the last fortnight and that really degrades the server framerate.

I ran a couple of traces from the server to Whitey's IP address tonight as he was getting choke from our server (as was everyone else apart from Blitzy I think). here is the results of the traces:

As you can see there seems to be a problem with the outbound router from our server :(
Traceroutes in to the server show high pings in London but not at the server router whereas traces out seem to indicate a problem with the router.

Here is pingplotter trace taken at same time and you will see that inbound to the server is fine apart from the appalling ping spikes in the London area.

Hopefully HV will be able to do something with this then. Thanks BB.

Fingers crossed this will lead to a resolution on the problem, as its at a point we are starting to lose (semi) active players due to the ongoing problems, fryday i decided to take a break from CSS due to this.

I can confirm that this is affecting the racing too. I've been trying to get to the bottom of it with people in the LFS forums. Their only suggestion was to try setting the affinity so that LFS was running on a single core. This appeared to improve things but we're still seeing mass disconnects when there's 10+ racers online. Friday was very bad which suggests that it's related to the amount of traffic - LFS+CSS. Let's hope HiV can determine and fix the probs.

Agreed, fryday was worse then the rest of the week, i got 4 DC's from CSS, all within a hour, before i tossed in the towel for the night.

Has anyone had any updates on this?
We had some horrible lag spikes last night again.

OldBloke

No update but last night was horrendous.

Amazing how the server knows that you're on the last lap of a ten lap race before it chucks you off :ranting2: :frusty:

The annoying thing is its not the server :(

I've been fiddling with Welcome screens etc and during the course of that I noticed that I set up the server with 18 guests, 8 admin slots and 22 max cars. The quick ones among you will notice that those figures don't add up. Maybe LFS has been confused when we got to the limit of connections :g: Anyway, I've adjusted it to 22-8-22 and hope it makes a difference.

I should have inserted a ':blush2:' in there somewhere.

Tonight was terrible, major lag spikes and crap voice comms.  Doesn't go down well just after me telling everyone they need to use their comms more

I know somethings in the works to resolve the issue but could you please give me some idea of what's being done to sort it or an idea of the timescale.

TeaLeaf

Yes something is being done and it is imminent.  All we can do is ask for a bit more time, it should not be long now.

It was a pig. We practice all week for a longer race at 9pm on Thursdays and, quite frankly, it was awful.

Something *IS* happening, Whitey. We are moving our servers to a new provider.

That it not to be mentioned outside of this area of the forum.

I have spoken to TL today about it and we are just waiting for a date to be firmed up. We can't really influence that date to any great degree but we're fairly happy it will be soon. I wish I could be more specific but I can't.

Thanks for the update, it won't.
