This brought a funny story about James Hunt into my mind: (American GP 1976)
"On lap four, Hunt was bearing down on Depailler for second place. He tried to slip inside the Tyrrell entering the right-hand hairpin just before the back straight, but Depailler closed the door, forcing Hunt to go around on the left. As they exited the corner side-by-side, Depailler moved across and pushed the McLaren into the barrier. Hunt yanked himself from his car, certain that it was undrivable, and shook his fist at Depailler each time the Frenchman came around. After the race, the McLaren mechanics came to retrieve the car and were able to drive it back to the pits!"

I read about this in a F1 2008 preview story on a Finnish sport magazine. According to the story Hunt was standing on the racing line shaking his fists when Depailler came there.

That was legal? I mean standing on the track

That brings to mind another incident... (quote from //www.grandprix.com)

During the 1973 Spa 24 Hours three drivers were killed. Jochen Mass tells a horrifying story of sharing a car with Hans Stuck and during one of the pitstops at the night, Stuck shouted to him over the noise that he should "look out for body parts at the Masta Kink". Mass arrived there expecting to see bits of car all over the road but was appalled to discover it was bits of a marshal.

Yeah, I think I saw a clip of that incident with James Hunt. kinda funny, but incredibly dangerous.

Thats nasty Aquilifer, they kept on racing?

Reminds me of another clip I saw on youtube, from some GP or other, where a marshal tried to run across the track (with a fire extinguisher)  to the aid of another crashed car. Needless to say he got hit, killing himself and if I remember correctly the driver also, due to being hit in the helmet with a fire extinguisher @100 mph or so. nasty stuff, why would you even try to take the risk? beggars belief.

ps the video is kind of gruesome, if your think about watching it.

The story didn't tell, but I suppose so. I guess they didn't care flying body parts so much in those days.

Whoa. What a way to die - hit by a fire extinguisher flying 100mph (velocity is relative so the extinguisher was doing 100mph relative to the car  )

Some close calls in these vids, but with happy endings. In the last vid, see how lightly the officer takes it... "Naah, wasn't even close, merde!" EDIT: Compare that to the first guy in the first vid - he is clearly shaken :)

Found these documents about ancient motor racing in Youtube. Those old cars look funny - they make so much smoke it looks they are in fire and the road handling seems to be quite awful in most of them. Some go just straight in a corner or the rear end sliding left and right :lmfao:

No, it's a joke. Based on me always saying to my missus "I used to have one of those" whenever an old car was on the tv.

It's what's called 'Alternative Comedy' i.e. not funny. :flirty:
