It is nice to have bigger teams, but with the number of people attending, to get 6 teams 5v5 seems the right number and we don't get the comms problem if we keep to 1 squad per team.

maps that I think will work for the 5v5 stuff.

Gulf of Oman (16 player)
Road to Jalalabad (32 player)
Mashtuur City (32 player)
Strike at Karkand (32 player)
Strike at Karkand 2 (32 player)
Sharqi Peninsula (32 player)

and Lib is right only 1 choice for the big one Strike at Karkand (64 player)

Hi Guys,

There isn't a comms problem really, we can run Teamspeak and have teams in their own private channel.

Karkand is ok (though with AAS it should be a foregone conclusion ie a win to the defending MEC as you can't even sneak past and take a back flag), but there are other good maps, such as Sharqui, Jallabad, Masshtuur.

I'd highly recommend we use 16 player maps, 32 maps are too large for small teams.

Benny

Ok, so do we know that we have enough people on BF2 as a starting point? I know most people do but is it worth risking doing an official tourney for it. I know the same could be said for CS, but tis seems popular every year.

Maybe Ranger has a point with the allocate time and sign up. A white board, stick your name down, tourney starts at x o'clock? Then when we have 13 people we know a 6v6 game is fine. If everyone scribbles down we can knock up a tourney real quick. We need a BF2 driver - I vote a Big person or Arm, to gee everyone up to sign?

We should find out how many people would play a BF2 league, can we run a poll?

Agree with Dewey on 16 player maps, fewer flags, more sneaky.

Rules:
Games last 20 mins - points win. The winning team score is the points difference.
Really we should play the same map twice.
Clays and mines kill friendlies
Friendly fire on 100%
Commander mode enabled
Choice of with or w/o vehicles

So lets say 4 teams

1v2 3v4 x2 is 1 hour
2v3 1v4 x2 is 1 hour
2v4 1v3 x2 is 1 hour

3 hours for a bf2 comp? If its teams of 5 that multiplies.

If we want to do this then one of the main concerns is how many people will play. Then we should decide team size. I dont think we can run more than four teams. Even with four I think we should spread the rounds out so its one hour at a time not a straight three hours.

Dr Sadako

Considering that a map on BF2 usually takes more time than a map on CSS I would recommend not making too big plans. Using 3+ hours for a BF2 tournament will not work imho. From my previous LAN experiences I think 1-2 hours is what people will commit to.

As suggested take a poll on how many will actually play.  Maybe it is more fun to do one or two 12 vs 12 matches instead of 4-6 matches of 6 v 6?

Or why not have a 20 vs 10. Newbies vs experienced?

Ok so if we wanted to shorten the time.

Just have 4 teams, play each map just once. Coin toss decides who will play on which side a team will play ie USA or Mec and then you play vs x3 opponents -

3 x 20 mins + 10 mins between games = 1hour and 30 mins for a tourney isn't so bad.

Then have a couple of big BF2 games?

Penfold

I think that would be better.

If we want people to play a big game of BF2 then realistically we have to have a smaller comp.

hour and a half sounds fine to me.

Dr Sadako

Could someone of the BF2 guys have a update CD/DVD ready for those who will install the game at the LAN?

-BF2 updates
-mods
-addons
-tools
-maps

Yeah sounds good.

Itinerary edited, please confiem all are happy.

Mats, assuming fast download on CS maps.

Dewey, on the server is fine, but we have some PC illiterates, so discs to hand around really help ease things.

Sure no problem Benny - we'll have a few CD's to go round too.

Looks good to me.

On the timings..... If we're wrapping up the CS comp by lunchtime I think we should wait at 3pm at least for BF2. (you've got 3pm and 1.30 listed?)

That way we can do the Deagle fun prior to dinner about 5.30pm

Good job soldiers !

I'm not sure how many LFS'ers are coming, But could we have a LAN weekend combo?

may be a demo set, so we can convert a few more people.

Don't see why not. Something easy for keyboard/mousers to get involved in.

This can be organised and run very quickly so we can leave it ad-hoc for now and slip it in as and when.
