QuoteSources claim Microsoft's latest OS update will arrive on April 29th
Shortly after the news that Microsoft is to withdraw popular operating system Windows XP from sales in June, sources are claiming that the long-awaited service pack 3 update will be made available for the system later this month.

TechRadar reports that a leaked release schedule says that SP3 will be made available on April 29th, with Microsoft’s close partners getting access slightly earlier.

Who is going to get it straight away? :)

...would probably crash my version of vista if I put it on.

It will probably be full of bugs and security flaws making XP an unstable mess. Then we all go out and buy Vista. Microsoft are genius!

I'm sure it was someone on these forums who once said "don't install SP1 till SP2 is in development"
I've stuck by that as far as possible, so it will be a while before I'm confident in it.:sideways:

In that case, prepare to install SP2. :)

Jabbs

Isn't SP3 basically an amalgamation of all the updates and patches since SP2?

Apparently not. They claim to be adding extras as well, though they're cagey about exactly what said extras *are*.

I assume (and hope) this won't come through the auto-updater in windows?

It would be nice to get a good look see at how stable it's gonna be before I install.

It's been so long I can't remember how SP2 was launched.
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

Jabbs

I heard that IE7 isn't even included!!!!!!!! :D LooL Liberator would love that ;-)  Perhaps they are gonna ship Firefox with SP3?? :narnar:

So far SP1 and SP2 has not been downloaded through the autoupdater.

I'd be wary of using the updater at all. It's a brave boy who lets Steve Balmer loose on their PC. Microsoft usually release security fixes etc on patch Tuesday so I run windows updater on a Wednesday and pick the stuff I want and dump the crap I don't.

Well... Its not like you always have a choise... I have de-activated the auto-updater on my Windows box, but i quite frequently get a "You-need-to-reboot-your-computer-becaus-we-mingled-with-it-due-to-a-SERIOUS-security-update" message with a 5mins countdown... Bloody annoying too! Caus the "Ill do it later" button works like a blimming snooze button! :ranting2:

You said it. Drives me nuts :sideways:

I think you need to turn of Security Centre completely as a running service, so you don't get the shield or the task bar notifications. Just remember to check of the useful stuff though :)
