Doorman

Gordon Browne stopped off in Afghanistan on his way to China and told the troops there that they were: "Displaying the same courage, professionalism and dedication as the competitors in Beijing"
My jaw dropped.

The 'same' or better?

It seems to me that anyone in the forces especially those in conflict situations are giving a lot more!  Like their lives in some cases! :crying:

Aquilifer

Was he trying to insult them?

Well, have to admit that many of the athletics are doping in a professional way and showing lot of dedication in it. I suppose in that situation it requires bit of courage too when officials come to ask you to pee into a cup :sideways:

That's my point.

I've been trying to think of a title for you. How about picking one of the following "well known" War Films:
  • Where Eejits Dare
  • The Mental Patient
  • The Git Escapes
  • Dozy Dozen
  • A pox on your lips now
  • Prats of Glory
  • Full Straight Jacket

DogMeat

Whoah - hold up there.  The one-eyed porridgewog is bang on the money.

1.  Train for ages.

2.  Go somewhere foreign.

3.  Come back with a cheap medal.

5.  Have all manner of greasy politicos try and bask in your reflected glory.

5.  Get forgotten about for the next four years.

The longer that gurning clown clings on to power the less likely then NeuArbeit will ever recover from the hammering the next election will deliver.

Good points although I disagree slightly with number 3 as I'm pretty sure all of the Beijing crew WILL come back.

:sideways:comparing us lot to olympians ..... what a twat

congrats heres a bronze for losing your leg... you would have got gold but you didnt die .......sorry

oh and you there that lost the arm you get nothing, oh except £20,000 but if you were an RAF typist and hurt your thumb you would have got £250,000... you silly sausauge:doh:

and they wonder why we are all thinking off leaving with stupid fecking quotes and ideas all the time is a starter, the fact that we spend a lot more time than we used to having some w*nker fire mortars and stuff at us, and it's run by mp's who about the nearest they have got to being in a warzone is laserquest at their local bowling alley

they come and visit us abroad and we are told to go and see them and smile and act nice when really we'd actually
a) Be in our beds
b) In worrk
c) anywhere except where those twats are

and as for the pay

ive been offered a job at kinetic doing exactly the same job except going to war zone and it pays three times as much, and all the equipment works:sideways:

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

I don't think we should belittle the Olympians, they have done a cracking job.  Compare their efforts with say...(off the top of my head)...'professional' footballers, they are incredible!

But really politicians make me sick, who do they think they are?  Have they been where our 'boys and girls' are? Losing limbs etc like sulky says?

As for a title (some more movie titles):

Operation Dumbo Drop
It Could Happen to You
Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?
Suburban Commando
