Mini Match Report:

Teams were:
Snokio, GhostMjr, Blunt, Tox, and Ranger (they could only do 5 vs 5) - Teams were picked on a first come first serve basis.

Well, it didn't go well I'm afraid guys

First map was Ambush, S&D
They win 17-1, they somehow managed to snipe us off from spawn before you can barely move an Inch which really came to as a suprise to us! Should not of been alowed really. They seemed to know our every move, and they were happy to go fraggin for the kills although they did hold a couple back to defend. Bunny hopping was used quite alot often jumping over our claymores avoiding death!

(Have to admit, they were very suspicious!)

Second map was Strike, S&D
This went much better for us, claymores were used to good effect, and for a change we was leading over them by one point, although one of their players did leave halfway through for reasons unknown. Defending was our stongest point.
When attacking, A seemed pretty much off the cards, B was our only real option, this was becuase on route to A, they bombard it with nades, they also can pick us off all the way from B, not to mention exploding cars
I think we did very well at getting the bomb planted at B which consistantly worked through out! :)

Coms were excelent! This really did have a huge effect on the game, it could of been alot worse without them! If you want to be in matches, this really is a MUST !

Thanks all of those that participated, more to come! :boxing:

Yea, killing us from spawn on the buzzer caused a large amount of f-ing and blinding, i don't know if it was through anything, jumping or stood up on something, but it was completely outrageous. Also dodgy in some areas where we had no idea how they knew where we were, often killed by a wall spam.

Perks of choice seemed to be UAV Jammer, dead silent and had clays and grenades. We won a couple of times through claymores being laid at the start then going off really late in the game, and early nade spamming (often by myself being pished off) works nicely in wiping out one or two.

They couldn't handle us on the second map though :) We had some awesome rounds with very few of ours dead.

I recall them planting twice in 16 rounds, they were just frag hunting all the time and ran out of time a couple of times giving us easy points. Mid air deagle headshot got right on my breasts though.

Fun games.

well done boys, just a shame we didn't get a better result. But it was our first every COD match :yahoo: so there is going to be a learning curve. Grats to all that took part on your sexy new competitor badges.:D

We will get then next time :dmw:

DuVeL

Sorry, that I had to decline for playing in the match, 10 minutes after the game started my boss called so glad it wasn't while I was in the match.

Weird stuff going on then.

Unlucky guys, its not fun to get mullered like that.

We need to investigate how they could snipe into our spawn like they did - it may not have been suspicious.

We also need to get practicing on specific maps and get our tactics nailed down.

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

yup, we definitely need to look into the sniping on Ambush; my guess is that the sniper immediately jumps on a car in their spawn and could see the tops of our heads (the ground rises in the centre of the map).
I would also be interested to learn how they made so many "lucky guesses" about where we were. Of course they may well have seen a bit of us poking out (remember when we had kill cam on, I was always thinking "no way" but when the kill cam showed my bum/rifle/head poking out or just caught me dodging behind cover...)
Or they may just wall-spam the obvious places:eyebrow:

As Snokio said, Our comms were good. teamspeak is ESSENTIAL as you can still communicate from beyond the grave.

Tactically, we lost hands down the 1st map, but some early laying of claymores won us some points as they fraghunted us through our half of the map. Their sniping was awesome:sideways:. 2nd map we played much better, again the early claymores paid off and it was pretty obvious that they didn't know this map as well as Ambush.

Thanks Snokio for arranging the match:thumbsup2:

Unlucky guys.

Doing this is always a steep learning curve as the way we play on our own servers is not necessarily the same way to win matches (similar to CS). it's a different mindset and one which will come with practice.

Can't wait to have a game :boxing:

Tox and I have just had a look at spawn sniping.

From where I spawned I could jump on a wrecked car and see Tox at his spawn. He was able to do the same there too, it just took a bit longer to get to the car.

The quickest spawn to snipe from was the one at the top of the map

In the first map i think we were out gunned but on the second we were holding them back and it felt like with more practice we could take them.

In all i think the friendly was able to make us learn from our mistakes. Whether the jump sniping is allowed in ED is another matter but i think we all need to set aside time to get regular practice in.

In other words we all play regularly don't get be wrong but not regularly within the match context. If we knuckle down we will be able to play well in ED. We all get along which is a bonus but i think we need to more fluid with our comms and this needs to be pushed forward in cod4 in general. If we start using comms regularly on mondays as we all do in CSS it will come naturally to us in match situations. Maybe the compulsory use of Teamspeak for cod 4 mondays could be looked into?

We do need map specific practice as suggested by Target but i'm up for any extra cod time if you guys are.

All round i'm pleased with the outcome we have learnt from the experience and now we can make improvements.

We could for instance ask BIG for a friendly. They're a nice bunch and i'm sure they'd like a match.

Sounds like a learning curve, well played guys.

As someone said competitive matches are going to involve a mindset change, and it depends how far your willing to go. If you want to compete to a decent level, you need to have the same tricks in your locker as the other teams - your going to have to practice all the things we don't like or normally practice ie bunny hopping, jumping round corners, nading using reference points from game on etc all the nasty little tricks the opposition are using. I know this goes against the grain for us as we pride ourselves on our gamesmanship and fair play.

I've never been part of the CSS scene, do you guys do all this kind of thing already in CSS - do you play down and dirty?

When I used to play BF2 ladders for RIP, we decided we wouldn't go the route of the dolphin divers and took a stance on how we wanted the game to be played... of course this meant we got mullered quite a lot but least we weren't dolphin diving

Strategy Program
Is there a program that allows people to meet up, while viewing COD maps that allows you to annotate it to discuss strategy? BIG guys used to use one in BF2 (forgot the name) and it was invaluable tool before you started practicing what you'd agreed.

Also interesting from the match write up to note it seemed on the 2nd game you concentrated solely on the objective while the opposition where focussed on getting kills. Reminded me of a game I played on BF2 ladder, we where playing one of the top sides on Mashtuur City in our ladder, the opposition won without killing/firing at anyone for first few mins, it was freaky they just avoided us and went for the objectives. Obvious when you think about it...

BIG guys don't really play COD4, (I do with you guys and Magnus plays occaisionally) but certainly not to the standard  your going to face in the ladders. I'm more than happy to provide opposition along with anyone else though and happy to share ideas to improve training etc.
