Oh yay GG valve..

Soon Valve will release the first dlc (download content) pack for L4D, and after reading their news post and what was written on their IRC chan, it seems the Survival pack as its being dubbed, is gonna cost the same as the original game -.-
QuoteThe first L4D DLC â€" dubbed the L4D Survival Pack -- is due for release this spring and introduces a new multiplayer game mode entitled, Survival, plus two complete campaigns for Versus Mode . A Critic's Choice Edition of the game will be heading to retail stores this spring, and will include access to all the content introduced in the L4D: Survival Pack.
1 new mode and two new survival maps -.- doesnt really justify a pricetag of the original game does it... GG valve

But isn't that just a new retail version including the updates and there'll be a Steam update to existing customers?:g:

Update: Due to a miscommunication, we had updated the original piece saying that PC and Xbox 360 Survival Packs would be paid. However, Valve has since told Edge that it hasn't ruled out the possibility of the price being "$0.00." Sorry for any confusion.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

In my honest oppinion, the difference in a dlc and a expansion is:

dlc is a minor content extension free for download, in the sense of a developer mod.

Expansion major content entension, bringing several new features and levels to a game.. Costing a fair amount of money..

So what is this upcoming extension.. Its not a dlc as it isnt free, and it isnt really a expansion as it just doesnt contain enough new stuff

Interesting, ruled out the possibility that pricing being 0... same thing is saying we dont really know yet..

After getting irritated about this new last night, i decided to email valve with a dim hope of actually getting a respons, tho i actually got one..

Here is part of the message.

QuoteDear Kim

We are sorry to hear your frustration about the latest news about the L4D DLC pack, and we are aware that others feel just like you do.
Im sure the department which handles pricing, are rethinking their pricing strategy after the enourmous amount of negative respons, they are after that announcement.
I hope for your sake they decide to change the pricing to 0.

Dearest.

Judging by everything thats happened to the PC version of TF2 I wouldn't get too wound up yet. Let them state they'll be charging before getting worked up. There have been new game modes, maps and other goodies in that all done for free.
I think everyone needs to take a step back and breathe. If I had to guess I'd imagine the Xbox 360 users will get shafted, and PC users should be ok.

But no word on making the other campaigns available in versus? Thought they said that would be in the DLC...

[BIG]magnus

This is the first dlc they have done for L4D since release they have done many many TF2 DLC's all for free since release so as people have said lets just wait and see.

They posted this over @ Bit-Tech;

The update, headed to both Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game, will include the as yet un-detailed “Survivor” game mode, which we wouldn’t be too surprised if it turns out to be something along the lines of the very popular Horde mode in Gears of War 2 or the Zombie Survival bonus level in Call of Duty: World at War, with the survivors defending a single position against ever increasing mountains of enemies.

The new versus content, currently described as just two new campaigns, will likely be the much anticipated versus play of the original’s Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns which was left out of the retail release â€" good news for those who enjoy the glee of authorised griefing with the help of 40ft prehensile tongues and exploding fatties.

The update will also bring with it the much anticipated Left 4 Dead SDK, finally allowing the mod community to start creating its own campaigns and levels â€" something that Left 4 Dead, with its limited four campaigns, has been crying out for.

No news on release dates or pricing yet, but we thoroughly expect Valve to release the pack as a free update as it has done previously with new content and maps for Team Fortress 2.
Survivor of LAN V, VI, VIII, IX, X, XII, XIV, XVI, XVIII, XX, XXIV, XXX, XXXII, XXXIV and XXXVI so far...
