Guys,

with more and more new players joining, please make sure that if you are a little more experienced, show people the ropes.

It's not a headlong rush to finish the level, it's not about getting points on the board, it's about making sure the new guys get the same fun out of the game as everyone else. You were new too at some point, teach them how to play as infected and make sure we stay focused on FUN!

Now move along.

I found myself doing too little of this, even moving at a reduced speed people can stuggle to keep up with me. If people are moving to fast for you, let em know, let ME know :). Personaly i tend to have a point guard spot in the group, so i cant really see you running a while behind me exploring, or feeling pressured to keep up.

As for learning them to play infected properly i find that all-talk on really is a pain for this, since you will have to type a lot on team-say. Its kind of hard to use VC when you want to tell em a git spot.

So yeh, jump on the truck, and then on the gutter kinda gives away to the survivors where you will be.

Tbh, id like all-talk off on server, just so the infected can work together a bit more, survivors will only use reactive voice, so for them its ok. HELP I AM BEING RIPPED TO SHREDS BY A HUNTER doesnt really give out that much tactic wise, and infected know what the path will be most of the time.

What's the best way to do this - play the single player first presumably?

Dunno, I've not played single player yet. :D

Just get on there and play and most importantly, have some damn fine fun.

Penfold, it's really not that hard to get into. Remember that Valve built the whole game around the idea of the four survivors keeping each other alive and safe. Watching the intro movie is a great illustration of their game design. So stay close together and watch for when your team mates are in trouble, which will be often.

As a zombie team play is less crucial although still advised. You're supposed to be a mindless creatue so complex tactics probably aren't your strong point. Plus as a zombie you're something of a one trick pony i.e. you do only one main attack. However hitting the survivors in a co-ordinated attack can be very effective. So it's advisable to try to work as a team as well.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

I would rather say it is even more important to use team play as zombies. Not only coordinated attacks are important but successful attacks are even more important. With spawn time at 20 seconds it is really important to make the most of the attack and spawn in a good spot. You spawning and just being shot within seconds will not help your team at all. It is just a waste of respawn time and you haven't inflicted any damage.

I find the zombie side way more tactical than the survivor side.

Would help if the infected had their own voice chat :)

Well, that is a server side setting. The admins can turn off alltalk. Still you can always write a line in teamchat.

We've discussed all_talk quite a bit in the dark nefarious corners of the forum that are reserved for the dirty minded admins.

The outcome was that whilst all_talk off for small numbers ruins the experience. Once it gets up to 8 player it's at that point the admin on will make a judgement call. If you are on the server and you fancy trying all_talk off just ask your friendly neighbourhood admin and I'm sure they will oblige.

There is something extremely rewarding about having a frenetic dash for the door with all talk on though..

And we have a Teamspeak server available if not, but then the ingame comms is good enough.

Well, one option could be to use both. The friendly banter on one channel and the vc for team on another.

all talk is good as you can berate the other players as you pounce on them, but for playing more tactically all talk off is a better option.

As for the new players, welcome to the game hope to puke on you all as much as possible. And ill try to help (thats a word everyone uses a lot in game) you as much as i can

at the moment this looks like an unexpected CSS beater in terms of ppl playing it, the teamplay aspect (either infected or survivor), and it general terms it just feels better, there is a purpose to each level. I feel that this game could go massive big time when the sdk and new maps are released.

thoughts?

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

Yes I agree. I have been thinking on installing the custom L4D sdk that seem to be working. Could be interesting to try it out.

On the VC, it's relatively difficult to decide. all_on is much better for the social aspect, all off makes it tactical.

Naturally we should lean for the latter but as has been posted elsewhere, it's designed from the ground up to be co-op and team based so if you don't try to be a team-guy, you lose.

On the teamspeak, I'd rather avoid it, it's an extra piece of config for everyone and it's a pain. We have in game comms, we just need to make the call on the night.
