Quote from: T-Bag;266213I'm personally not a big fan of the badges, I'm not really sure what they're for.

The badge is the way we formally recognise members for playing in a mature manner, for demonstrating an appreciation of our rules and guidelines and for setting an excellent example to our guests. I would have expected you to know that.

ive found it hard to get on to css recently, Its friday and the clan on masse try to join, so it takes a bit to get on, well ok, most ppl that cant get on css join l4d

to be honest im glad about l4d,

a) its somewhere to go when css and cod4 are full
b) its still in-steam so you can monitor the other servers
c) in my humble opinion we would be better to have 3 l4d servers 1 perm on 4 player and 2 configurable that way everyone would get to play something.

im a css player always have since 2001 ish but times are a changing unfortunalty so i/ we are going to new games for new challenges.

i agree l4d could be just a fad thing, but what happens when the sdk comes out, tbh i dont see this going down the poop shoot like tf2

we are now in the position where we could potentally have more players that slots?

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

I thought the whole concept of a forum was:
A. Discussion of topics of interest to the community.
B. Comments (positive or negative) on the discussions of the various threads.

I guess that when the comments (as in Dogmeat's) don't conform to the politically correct norm, then its time for the Moderator to step in, (as in Smilodon's post), with a slap-down.

I have read and reread the forum policies and rules but I cannot find any reference to, or mention of, sarcasm. If it's not against the rules, why the "keep pushing" comment (or threat?)?

Is sarcasm the sole domain of moderators or section heads or Community leaders?

(this, in answer to T-Bags post in this thread).

I am reminded of BB's sig. " lead, follow, or get out of the way". I guess we'll all just get out of the way.

Browne out.

Browne, purely coincidentally the Acceptable Use Policy is undergoing an update at the moment.  We are trying to update it and a final document is almost ready for release.  Tbh though any AUP is going to struggle to put down absolutely everything.  How would you legislate against someone being a plank for example?  Any such AUPs assume a degree of maturity and common sense and are subject to wider interpretation about what is acceptable, so the AUP itself will never explicitly list  everything.

I am at a loss. I never questioned the validity of the AUP, merely mentioned that I had never seen any reference to "sarcasm" within the said tome. The AUP is a necessary and indeed, mandatory document for a forum. The use of the term "plank" could (and will be) construed as an insult. It may not be what you mean, but it requires some clarification. I would not consider myself a plank, though some might be tempted to refer to me as such, but, I don't think that's what you were implying. I would consider myself more as a "splinter", small, but annoying ™.

I don't have any idea what is happening within this community that would warrant a comment to a public post (Dogmeat's) like "keep pushing",  from a moderator. Its not appropriate.

He wasn't calling you a plank mate :lmfao: What he was trying to say was that it's impossible to cover all eventualities in a Forum's AUP.

Either way - good answer with the splinter. I may well blatantly plagiarise that and take it as my own :).

Nice to have some good one-liner's up the sleeve to avoid those L'Esprit d'escalier moments :thumbsup2:

Indeed. But the tag is now tied to the badge. The tag shows your standing with dMw whilst in game. The badge shows that standing within the forum.

I do.  I have a detailed explanation regarding the use of "sarcasm and criticism" in forum posts being strictly verboten; certainly from me, if not from anyone else.

I'm now also not allowed to post anything that isn't constructive, so here's a picture of a building site:

I shall issue a more detailed press release when (or indeed, if ever) the ban I'm shortly going to receive for this post under the provisions of the Forum Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 is lifted.

I'm chuffed to bit's to hear ideas, thought and comments about the community and the forum etc. I'd point out quickly that it's not MY community or forum, but as a member of it I like to talk about it too. We've seen a lot of changes recently and whether you like them or not a significant amount of work has gone into bringing them online without breaking the forum to bits. It's been a 'busy' time to say the least.

It's clear with so many changes which include a financial element (the paid subscription) and the loss of some forum goodies for those who choose not to pay (sig files, private message stores etc) that some people will applaud the changes, some will hate them and some will not give a monkeys either way. It's nice to get positive feedback and it's important to get negative feedback as well. And clearly on an open forum it's fine to say "that's a crap idea that is, and you know it's not actually my job to tell you where you've gone wrong".

However, and here I have to choose my words wisely so as not to be misunderstood. Getting nothing but sarcasm without any constructive criticism at all eventually wears you down. How many times do you, me or anyone need to make it clear we don't like the way "things are"? Once? Twice? Eventually those on the receiving end are likely to say "Ok you've made your point. You choose not to enlighten us about the true path to forum nirvana, lets move on and let it go."

I'm not a boss of this community. I don't run stuff and I don't hand out warnings of infractions or bans. I just play the games like everyone else. recently I've volunteered to update the forums and help sort out the new features (emphasis on help). That's nearly done and soon I'll go back to being a community members with just my few green badges etc. So I can post what I like on the forum (within the AUP) as I'm not doing so as a leader of the community. It's just me making a point. Something we're all aloud to do, once at least. :)

Oh and sorry for dragging this thread off topic. Back to MH issues and if we feel like chatting about stuff raised here then we can always start a new thread eh.
