Remember the halcyon days of thrashing a Lotus Cortina or an Alfa Romeo GTA? Well they're back! If you own rFactor and still have a copy of GTL lying about THIS is a real treat.
HistorX have made a mod for rFactor with superb physics, beautiful tracks and providing you use RealFeel (included in the mod) and 900 degrees on your wheel it's a blast! Be warned, it's over a gig download but worth it. :D No Starforce either!
I have a server set up on my spare pc running the mod with Brands Hatch Indy, Castle Coombe, Oulton Park, Mid Ohio (nice) Snetterton, Eastern Creek (rFactor's first laser scanned track) and Silverstone National.
All these tracks and loads more can be obtained from rFactor Central
And no, I haven't gone off nKP! :narnar: But this lot should be on every simmer's hard drive. :thumbsup2:

Woo that would be awesome. Finding a server on rFactor is akin to banging your head into a brick wall, so it would be nice to have somewhere to race.

Worth looking at Bathurst too, that track is awesome with the Mustangs ;)

The Moose

Yeah!   I've been an avid rFactor hater for years, though I've tried to find something about it to like many, many times.

I have to say, the HistoriX mod is bloody fantastic.  I'm well and truly sold on it.  It would be great to see a few people racing this.

Maybe make the server public one day and just have it set up for cruising round the 'ring.  I bet that would get a good few people in :)

lovretta

Hi Ron! Haven't been around here for a while. It's really nice you discovered HistoriX, really awesome mod. Is your server passworded (too lazy to go check that) whats the pass?

Will you maybe run some all-join league with it?

The password is the same as usual. Now go and look for it you idle git! :)
You'll be welcome. :D

The Moose

Well that was a great nights racing..even though there was only three of us :) I'm in love with the Escorts, what a blast!

More tomorrow please :D

Deetz

Brilliant fun, a total blast :D

You were racing tonight :crying:
Where have i been.. is server still up?

May i suggest some tracks...

It's crazy it's fun it's... Australian :)
Mount Panorama - Bathurst, originally comes for rF with V8 Supercars mod, but in case you are not interested (and you probably aren't, trust me) here it is...
Some screenshots & info
rapidshare Download link Can be downloaded 10 times now, since i'm free user...

Another one... Old french temporary country-side street circuit, also from Virtua_LM, one of the best modgroup (Mid Ohio and old LeMans) - Rouen-Les-Essarts.
Great, really fast, thrilling track to drive, two layouts, one used from 55 - 70 ithink, and other one form 74 - to something... Both great and fun.

Here are some other cars.... worth mentioning. Also made by physics guru Niels Heusinkveld
Ferrari 312B from the 1970 F1 season.....
...and his Corvette C6 street car.
Both fantastic & worth trying, especially Ferrari.

He also has put up an interesting site, for those who want to know more about this rFactor, SimBin = crap phyiscs. http://geocities.com/n_heusink/rfactorphysics/index.htm

Whoa! Take it easy. Early days yet, we'll get round to them...eventually. :D
EDIT: Rouen looks very interesting though.
As for the Pantera and other manic cars such as the GT40 they'll be a long time coming

lovretta

That was just a suggestion to try, no need to put them on server :)
Theres plenty of cars in Histoirx :)
My favorite is the DeTomaso Pantera :taz:

I've got all those tracks already :)  The VLM tracks were first on my list, really top quality work.

I'll happily spend time just discovering the joys of the HistoriX mod for the time being.   There's enough there to keep me happy for the next year.  I could probably just drive the Escorts and Capris for the next 12 months and still not get bored :)

Gnomie

Hm.... this sounds tempting. Moose, can your PC run it? I've never tried rFactor. Where's the best place to buy it? Do you need to purchase a copy of GTL too in order to make the HistorX mod work?

What's been keeping me away from rFactor is all the complaining that it's too hard to find a race online, with all the different versions / tracks / mods. If more dMr people start racing I might reconsider!

vobler

I have also downloaded and reactivated my rFactor. Installed the Historic too.
I need links to the tracks because there is so many versions of each track.

Heres a few that we are concentrating on to begin with.

Castle Combe
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Castle%20Combe%202005

Brands
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Brands%20Hatch%202005

Eastern Creek
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Eastern%20Creek%20Laser
(Ron, i think i have the answer to the problem we had with it..will try it later)

Mid Ohio
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Mid-Ohio%20Sports%20Car%20Course

Oulton Park
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Oulton%20Park%202005
(install the bump fix as well)

Snetterton
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Snetterton
(download both the 1.0 and 1.5 installs)

There's a couple more i think, but those should be a start.

Were just getting used to rFactor and its many pain in the arse moments trying to get everything compatible, but we can guarantee racing  at Mid Ohio,Brands and Castle Combe :)

Check out Lovrettas post for some other worthwile track downloads.

I've installed some nice new textures for some of my tracks. I'll make sure it all still works online first before posting the links.

Quote from: Gnomie;273877Moose, can your PC run it?

Yup, you can configure it to run with DX7,8 or 9 shaders so it should run on most machines, and there's plenty of graphics options.  I run it in DX8 mode with most options turned right up and 4XAA 16xAF and get good (60+) FPS in most situations.  A lot depends on the tracks tbh.  Mid Ohio is beautiful looking and is one of the best performance wise as well .  Eastern Creek with the new high res textures runs at over 100 FPS in places, even on my crappy rig with a decent grid of cars.  I'm sure you will get it to run pretty well on your machine.

I'm going to just show on what system i have been running it, one year after it was released:

Celeron 1.4 - old FCPGA 370 socket
256 MB SDRAM (133 MHz)
Radeon 9200

It was going smooth, when conifugred properly!

One of the things that affect perfomance alot in rF are the shadows, and day/night transitions - night racing being big perfomance killer.

If anyone needs help, just ask, i'm long time rF user, i know alot of it...

Will you be racing today?

Edit.

Some more links...

Lime Rock Park, fanastic little circuit
download links

Here you can find texture update for it, made by well know rF artist who hides behind nickname "SLN". A must have texture update!
Direct DL link

Check his small site, he also updated a bunch of other tracks

Stu, what problems did you and Ron have with Eastern Creek?
