As you know it is much easier to race close with people you have raced hundreds of times before.

Just remember what happened when I was racing Moose at Laguna. (Or he was racing me....) :) Safety car!

But this mod felt good and was nice to look at. I will join you a few nights a week if we get a few regulars on this.

Are you talking about this mod? It definitely looks bloody awesome!

I'm tempted to buy Rfactor for this alone, but I'm a bit put off by all the things I've read about it. The hassle of setting it up correctly, the fiddling around with the RealFeel plugin, the issues posted about in this thread, etc etc. And of course the countless mods, although that wouldn't be a problem in this case.

Also, is it possible to just download the rFactor content, or do I need the physical disc? I don't know if I can find it in stores here, and I don't want to have to wait for it to be shipped here from the UK. Besides, I don't have CD drive anymore :) Also, I assume that I'll only need the basic rFactor content - plus the HistorX mod, of course - and I seem to remember reading somewhere on the LFS forum that that's only a couple hundred megabytes.

The RealFeel plugin is in the Mod install file so that takes care of the settings and stuff. I started this weekend with a new install. It worked fine. No need to fiddle with ini files. (But there is a 30 page manual with the mod. Read that)
But as you say its a couple of big downloads.
rF  was around one gig, and the mod itself was about the same. Then add a few tracks at 30-100megs a piece.

lovretta

Yes, at first it was ONLY available as online buy - go here

And setting those things we have pointed out is one time set it and forget it. Real Feel setting is really simple once you learn 2 hotkeys combination ;) - since historix has realistic suspension, not some fudge-work like most rf mods, only setting in real feel you need to alter is FF-strenght, something you setup in game while driving, just like in lfs.

Also here you can download "light" version of rFactor, all (crappy) default content thrown out, which in the end turns out something like 100 MB.

HistoriX mod is a "bit" bigger, around 1 GB.

And for getting no mismathces with tracks when going online, either Ron will upload them :) or he will (or anyone of us suggesting a track) will put the exact link here so we make sure everyone has the same version.

The only bad thing I have found about it is the amount of smoke coming from the tires. Can that be reduced?

lovretta

I guess so, first thing that comes up to my mind is that you would need to fiddle with smoke texture, but maybe there is some setting somewhere... Gonna check it...

Haven't found anything, at least not in .plr file.

Also if someone is driving with VISIBLE steering wheel in-game AND you are using 900 degrees, actually you may be using as much as you want. To make the in-game wheel rotate the same amount as the wheel in front of you, go to UserData\"your username in rf"\ folder, open the Controller.ini find this line

Steering Wheel Range="xxx"

Change xxx for whatever the steering wheel rotation you are using.

Excellent. I'll check that out later today and buy myself a birthday present :)

Sounds simple enough. Let's hope you're right.

Ah yes, that's the one I meant.

Thanks for the info and maybe I'll see you tonight! :)

Just to be sure, before I go and pay for rFactor: I don't need any disc to be inserted while playing, do I? I have GTL and I can temporarily hook up my CD ROM drive if I need stuff from it to be copied to the rF folder, but I do not have my CD ROM drive available while playing games. So it must run from the harddrive alone, otherwise I'll pass on this for now.

EDIT: Apparently, if I buy it from the official site it'll cost me € 35 (~ £31). I'm not spending that kind of money on this. I'll go and see if I can find it in stores here. If not, then that's too bad. I suppose I could download the trial version to try it out at least, assuming the HistorX mod works with that one.

Doorman

You only need the GTL disc in the drive while HistoriX is being installed. You then take it out and put it back on the shelf. This is a way the modders have of acknowledging GTL.
I can't help with where to buy rF other than the link I gave. Soz
