Indeed, but its still not released yet.... :sideways:

Steam is so conflicted on its page it says its released today and tomorrow....

TeaLeaf

MW2 is not a game dMw is going to support so I am sure you can find who is playing it via Steam, even if you have no way of actually getting to the same game as them.

No dedicated server = no sale.

I really enjoy the single player of these games, and im sure in time they will release the ability for dedicated servers, they would be mad not too. Once their initial sales come through they will see they can make millions more by adding it in.

I have emailed Steam and demanded a refund for something i should have already received and purchased it through Amazon for Ã,£6 less. I wont buy anything from steam again as that's the 4th game delayed without reason or communication.

I came into this world with nothing,
through careful management I\'ve got most of it left.

bought it for the xbox360 for Ã,£25 from morrisons, played a bit last night(single player) and thought is was ok, to me it looks and plays just a COD4 but with new missions.:)

Steam refunded the game, bought it from tesco's works fine, and steam didn't close my account ghosty :P

Really enjoyed the game, i especially like the silent kills and ghosting around so much fun. I have yet to have a issue in multiplayer although it seems im always the host . Lets just hope they see how much they are loosing and add ded's in a upcoming patch.

Left4dead 2 is out in a few days so im sure that will be receiving the more hype.

mmmm.. a bit short sighted not to have dedicated server support I agree. However, how can you so flippantly write off what is going to go down as the most successful game in history so far?

I'm picking it up for the weekend. It looks like a great game. And when server support does come out you'll all be miles behind.. muhahaha

I think the flippance comes from not being able to get what you want out of a game.  Clearly dMw is forced into not 'supporting' (ie provide admin'd servers for) the game as no dedicated server code has been released, but a lot of people when they play the game want to do so on a dMw server with their dMw friends and in the dMw atmosphere.  If the developers do not support dedicated servers many will not bother playing the game, partly as a protest against the short-sightedness of not issuing dedicated server code.  I find myself in this camp too, I'd rather spend my money on another game where I can play with dMw members on our own admin'd server.

Let's also not forget the whole Mod market that is now ruled out by the lack of a dedicated server.  Think of how many of our popular games in this community were/are mods.  Counter-strike was a mod too, but we'd never have seen the game if this approach had been taken.  PC gamers lose a lot when a company decides not to support dedicated servers, the developers lose a lot of sales due to not having other mods pulling in purchasers of the core game platform, the only people who do not notice an different are the console gamers (those that were not banned 2 days ago that is).

Following the huge protest about the news that there will be no dedicated server Activision have already stated in a press release that they have no intention of doing any dedicated server support at all.  They want to push users into using their lobby system.  They went to the trouble of allowing you to host your own game at home, but then there is no way you can vet who uses it and joins you for that game.  I think their intentions are clear, they are pushing the console market not the PC market.

...and console sales I suspect are what is driving their sales 'records'.  I have yet to see a breakdown to allow a comparison of PC sales.  The 'most successful game in history' was Counter-strike, which was a mod.  Strip out the console sales and whilst I am sure MW2 will have had some impressive sales numbers, I doubt it will be 'record' sales numbers.

As for how far behind we'll be.....well maybe you are right, but whilst we will be far behind in the MW2 stakes (and playing something else on a dMw server with our dMw friends), anyone playing MW2 will be the ones having to spend your time with hormonally-challenged bunny-hoppers using leet speak and omg*** all the time that the lobby system matched you up with! :P

My Ã,£35 is not going to Activision for this game for the above reasons.  It's not flippancy, but hopefully I've explained why many others are doing the same.

/agree. I have nothing against people who have bought MW2. I'm not going to evangelise about how they shouldn't pay for a game with no dedicated server support or anything. If they enjoy the multiplayer then great. I'm happy for them, but from what i've seen it's not what I want to spend my cash on. I know there are a good number of dMwers who enjoy a good frag fest on CS, CoD4 or whatever every now and again, and join other public servers to do so because it isn't our style. However i'm one of the one who, since discovering dMw, haven't played on a non-dMw server at all (yes, I know I barely play on the dMw ones as well, but I was playing more a while back ;) No time at the mo), and i've never missed mad fragging over the tactical play we do (but maybe that's because I suck so much at mad fragging ;) ).

I want to play the single player though. I really enjoyed the single player from CoD4. When MW2 is Ã,£15 or so i'll pick it up and burn through the single player and probably then never touch it again.

I'd also, as TL said, be interested in seeing a breakdown of console vs PC sales for the game, and the same stats for CoD4.
