Unlucky m8:sad:
Mine went bang a few weeks ago so you have my sympathy.
Hopefully you can figure out what the problem is quickly.

Bad luck mate.

Any idea what it was that went bang if it wasn't the PSU? Checked your GFX card?

Was Armitage anywhere near it?

Good luck mate.

If you heard something go bang, you will most likely smell it or see it (blown chips etc), PSU's tend to go bang more than anything else

update:

forgot that i sold my old gfx card so unable to swap to test it

memory swapped same problem, tried starting it with no memory and i seem to recall you should get a beep from the mobo to say that theres no memory ... but no beep :sideways: starting to think the mobo's fried.

will try and source a gfx card to eliminate that, and will bring home a tester to test the psu
but other than that i'm outta ideas

any thoughts chaps?

I've had PSUs fail and they seem to power up but drives don't spin up or boot. So it may be worth trying another PSU.

Otherwise it could be a disk failure? Do you have another disk you can try?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

you could try looking out for blown capacitors on the Motherboard and graphics to see if it's anything obvious, e.g.

Note that some might looked 'raised' / 'expanded' rather than cracked, they all should be flat, but this is just on the off chance.

Well I don't know what you've been doing Kev, but my PC has gone Kaput too!

I think its a mixture of PSU and GFX, unfortunately I don't have a spare of either.  GFX is just within its 1 year warranty period (like 2 weeks within it).

So you lucky people, I'll be around the forums but won't be on the servers :(

I write down everything I want to remember. That way, instead of spending a lot of time trying to remember what it is I wrote down, I spend the time looking for the paper I wrote it down on.

lionheart

You should get some beeps if you start it without a GFX as well, have you tried that. Is beginning to sound like the mobo but Ive never heard of one go pop before, maybe your PSU popped and took your mobo out.....

Can't see any burn marks or blown capacitors on mobo or gfx, so fingers crossed its just the psu, tried without gfx and no beep either ??

will test psu 2mora

would have thought that a disk failure it would atleast show up as a boot failure on screen ?

cheers for all the Help chaps :thumbsup2:

:

Disk Failure you'll get the bios screen, a pause while it looks for drives and then a failure to boot notification. 9 times out of 10 complete failure to do anything is PSU, the other 1 is mobo/ram/cpu/graphics (in roughly that sort of order from when I've had things die)

Had a power supply die two days ago on a uni machine. Very unspectacular, just no effort to boot, no pops, bangs etc. I prefer when there's a sign, but having replaced it the PSU was definitely the culprit as the computer works fine now. Fingers crossed it's something simple.

PSU tested and is putting out the right volts on the 12v, 5v and 3.3v rails

looking more and more like the mobo :sideways:

What voltages (and more importantly current) are you getting from your PSU?

Also what rating is (i.e. 450W, etc)?

Reasons for the questions - my PC appears to power up, but I get no output from the GFX, even though the GFX is getting power (I know this as the fan works on the GFX).  I initially thought it was the GFX (and its getting RMA'd tomorrow) or the PSU, as I'd been having some oddities with the PC BSOD'ing once logging in to Windows after changing the HDD and PSU.

Once it loads correctly, the PC was nice and stable until last night when I got no output from the GFX...

Any thoughts?

PS, sorry to hijack your thread Kev, but your problems appear very similar to mine :(
