According to this electronic trip down memory lane, it is nine years to the day since I joined dMw. Time does indeed fly and, yes, it flies even quicker when you're having fun :)

A couple of months ago I reached the age of 55 and the simple fact is I'm beginning to feel my age (even though I might not act it :) ). This has made me look at my position as co-leader of our community and ask the question - am I still the right person to be doing this?

To be perfectly frank I no longer feel that I am and that it's time to make way for someone else. I want to do this now while I still have the sense to know my time is up rather than later when someone has to politely tell me (I'm ignoring the fact that I've have been told to stand down in the past - because that wasn't polite :flirty:).

TeaLeaf has considered my replacement and I was delighted that he approached Penfold who in turn agreed to take on the role. I'm confident they will make a great team and that they will continue to provide the community with the leadership necessary to take it forward into the future. I will officially hand over to Penfold during the leadership meeting at the LAN but you don't have to wait till then to tell him what a fool he is :lmfao:

I'm extremely proud of what we've all achieved together and although there's been the odd hiccup along the way we've stuck by our principles and we're still providing the gaming experience we set out to provide all those years ago :thumb:

In the future I hope to be strong enough to spend a lot less time in-front of this bloody computer but, as you are all aware, gaming is such fun particularly when enjoyed in the company of friends.

So ... keep the faith and always remember - it's a game and it ought to be fun.

See you on the servers. GL&HF :byebye:

As I have said to you already, dMw would not be what it is today without people like you, so thank you for the time you have invested in our community.  Thank you seems insufficient somehow! I'll look forward to shooting you on our servers and enjoying  a pint or three at the LAN.

Immensely sorry to see you stand aside but delighted you're staying with us.
You and Doorz were the reason I joined the community and I thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have shown to dMr.
I wish Pen and yourself all the best for the future, I'm sure he will make an excellent leader.
I look forward to seeing you at the LAN, the scotch is on me. (Glenlivet 12yo):D

Although I've known this was coming for a couple of months now and have been bracing myself to step up, these are some mighty big shoes to fill and as the time approaches I'm becoming increasingly nervous about getting it right and maintaining the impeccable standards that Oldie has demonstrated year in year out during his tenure at dMw.

His resolve and dedication are a testament to the regard in which he holds dMw and, in return, how we feel about him. Iââ,¬â,,¢m delighted that heââ,¬â,,¢s staying on the servers for a (more than) well deserved break from the unseen (and mostly un-thanked) work done by him and all the admins both in front of and behind the scenes. The trips to London to tend an ailing server, the endless configurations and tweaks of our servers both on an ongoing basis and at the LAN, the tireless and selfless work heââ,¬â,,¢s done promoting and caring for dMw - taking over from DM and Stryker when it was in its infancy and, along with TL,  evolving it into what it is today.

TL is right, a thank you is barely sufficient to cover the aeons of time heââ,¬â,,¢s dedicated to our little haven but I, for one, am very grateful.
GL, HF and happy retirement :3cheers:

OB,

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication to our community.

Today we have a large community base and we are one of the few communities that players can be assured that they have mature and tactical gameplay every time they play on one of our servers.

In short i wish you all the best and look forward to seeing you at lan's in future and on the servers.

We'll all miss you

Sad to see a Titan step down, but if its time its time.
Thanks OB for all the work you've put into dMw community.

Congratz Pen, you've got a hard spot to fill but the rest of the community is there for you and backing you so it shouldnt be that difficult.

Ahh seems only 2 minutes ago a young squirrell was telling me about this really nice bunch of blokes he played Counterstrike with and so i duly headed over to deadmen.co.uk and got to start playing with a certain Oldbloke and his 4 year old son Frenzy (okay that bit is untrue !)

Lan followed beer followed lan followed beer and like a planted seed a community grew and flourished.

Been a pleasure to have you at the helm Oldie for so long guiding and pushing for gaming fair play and excellence and still to this day our principles carry on thanks to you and Tea and soon to be Pen all will still be in safe hands i have no doubt on that.

As Tealeaf said, thanks just doesn't seem enough but THANKS (Caps makes it true) is better :D

Wish you all the best mate (but mess with me and i'll still pop a cap in your ass at the lan !)

You'll be missed Oldie. You've given a massive amount to this community over the years and we've been incredibly lucky to have you - cheers mate!

I hope you stick around for many more years to come. I'm sure I'm not alone in considering you to be part of the 'soul' of this community, and even if you're not our official leader you can still have an enormously positive influence.

Oh, and you still have to come to LAN's. you can't get out of them that easily :P

That said, I can't think of anyone better to fill your shoes. Congratulations Penfold and good luck :)

Indeed! Somebody buy that man a beer

The value of all the work OB has put into dMw is hard to quantified. The only thing for certain, is that if we could put a number on it it would be pretty high! And there is no doubt that Pen has what it takes to step up and into OB's shoes.

So...
Thank you OldBloke :worship:
Good luck Penfold
Long live dMw :dmw:

Oldie leaving the admins!! The end of an era.

It was your fault that I strayed into dMw when you posted on the work message boards. I had a look, enjoyed what I saw and stayed. For that I think a lot of people may never forgive you! :norty: But I for one am glad you did and now I very rarely play anywhere else.

Pen, those are some mighty big boots to fill but I am sure that you'll manage to do just that. The smell may take a bit longer to get used to.

But don't be a stranger now Oldie.
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.
