Guys,

Not sure whether you have seen but I've started a topic about us having a MW3 server in Game Development.

There isn't that much interest but I reckon we could get some to sway over to a yes with a server being physically available.

Can we please get a server up and running pointing to our website.

Shouldn't be too much configuration as its in steam under "tools", I appreciate that Whitey has been sorting out alot of CSGO bits recently so this isn't too urgent.

Even if dmw's don't use it its an advert for our community as the game is still played quite a bit!

Thanks!

I took a brief look at the vote and I think you'd need more than 'sway' judging from the generally negative feedback.

What was the outcome of your discussion with Blunt?

No objections to running a server, but if it is not used then there's no point maintaining it.   Let's see if we can get one running and then see if it is used.

Edit: MW3 server update routine is running on BA4

COD MW3 server now up  and running.  Thank you Whitey for having already installed relatively idiot-proof batch files for me to click!

Hey TL,

Spoke to blunt shortly before creating the above post via steam chat.

We decided to give it a go as COD as always been an old favourite and as COD4 and BO have since been semi retired- the former due to age the latter due to cost/ lack of activity we thought "let's put it up and see what happens". However due to current CSGO commitments Blunt didn't want to lead on this as he is too busy. Possibly another GL could lead on this?

Thanks for getting the server up so quickly, I'll post the details of the server in Game Development and we can see whether it is/ isn't used by publics and the community. Not sure how we can sort out a MOTD but if we can then this will point people to our website/ forum/ teamspeak. Or regular server messages?

Thanks Again.

Erm...
I think what I said was that I didn't plan to get the game unless it really took off in dMw, and that I wasn't interested in being GL for it.
"we decided to give it a go" translates as me saying "you carry on, I'm not really interested".
I don't want to put a damper on it, but I'm not planning on playing any CoD franchise again.
Regards
Blunt

Server guru's,

If I had a map that I created for CS:Go that we wanted to upload to the server is it just the .vmf file you need?

I nearly have a map created (mainly to test at the moment) and just wondered what files are needed

Cheers

I don't know the answer off the top of my head and don't have access to the server from work. I do know you will need a .nav file as well as the main map file if you want the ability for bots to use the map.  You really need to test the map thoroughly on your PC before you let anyone near it on the server and make sure it's well optimised.  I haven't done any map development on CS:Go but have on CS:S and it's easy to throw a map together but a lot more difficult to create a well balanced map that doesn't kill frame rates and/or cause lag.

UPDATE:  Just checked and it's .bsp and .nav files that are needed.

Sparko

Ok cheers for the advice whitey much appreciated :)

It said there was an update ready to install, which it did when it restarted.

TeaLeaf

Ah, I just restarted it too following a TS poke from Ninja.

Whitey, how easy do you think it would be to implement the OOB signs that we had in CSS?
Bearing in mind we can no longer have sprays, does this make it impossible?
Also, while my KB's warm, do you have copies of the old server messages (No Bunny-hopping/frag-hunting/swearing)?
If I sent you a list of messages could you put them on the server?

Thanks

PS, MOST IMPORTANTLY, could you give me, Kreg, Snokio & Sparko permissions to use our CS:GO Admin TS channel as we have a meeting tonight and it would be good not to be disturbed.
Regards
Blunt

I can think of one possible way, the CS:GO SDK (Hammer map program) actually comes with the default maps, so we could add 'overlays' (boundry signs) to certain parts of the map that we need to on the walls etc.  They would then need uploading to the server as they would effectively be 'modded maps'.......if all that makes sense :)

The plugin we used to use has been made to work with CS:Go so it should be possible to get it working.

The old CS:S servers are still there so I can grab the config from it.  I haven't looked to see if the plugin we used to show the messages is available for CS:Go and it or something like it would be needed.

Sure, Poke me on TS as I need the person to be on TS to grant the permission.
