I was on the way home from work with Thulsa_Doom (some of you will know) on the bikes and he was hit head on by a car.  I have spent the last 6 hours in hospital with him and it's touch and go if he will make it.  He's currently on his way to Edinburgh to have surgery to repair a ruptured aorta. He also has broken ribs (all of them) punctured lungs broken arm, broken collar bone and suspected broken jaw.  The good news is that his brain and spine are fine.  What a night!

sorry to hear that, hope it all goes well and you know were we are if you want to have a chat
Maybe there\'s something to be said for being different. We are who we are. What more could we ask for?

Damn that's serious news Whitey.  If you can, please pass on our best to TD and his family, we'll be thinking of him.  Keep us posted please and don't worry about not showing up, TD is way more important than gaming.

I've just spoken to Hazel again (Stephen's Wife) and he is just heading into surgery to get a Stent installed as well as some other work (expected to take 4 hours).  He has been stable all night and has shown signs of improvement.  The swelling is going down and his jaw is not broken although he has a fractured skull and the damage to his collar bone and other bones in that area is extensive and will require plate work once he is fit enough to have it fixed.  It's a similar story with his lungs, there's not much they can do until he is fit enough to have the work carried out to repair them.  He will also need quite a bit of plastic surgery but that's minor compared to the other problems he has.  He has been unconsious since it happened and is being kept that way for the time being.

It's been another roller coaster 24 hours.  He went in for the operation at 11:30AM yesterday and I got a phone call at 13:30 to say that he was going downhill fast, the damage was worse than expected and that I should prepare for the worst.  Some time after 5PM I got a phone call from Hazel to say he had survived the operation (the surgeon was amazed he had), the stent was in place and he was stable.  I spoke to Hazel again this morning and he had a good night and is scheduled for more surgery today to repair some of the bone damage.

Jesus Whitey, I'm so sorry.

I know there's sod all we can do but please pass on our best wishes and our thoughts are with our northern brethren.

Thanks, I should probably have posted this somewhere else but I know most people that know Thulsa have access to this thread and i didn't want it in the public areas of the forum.

Any update on how things are going Whitey?  Anything we can do to help?  dMw card to him for when he comes round, or flowers for his wife to let her know we're thinking of them?

He's still stable and making slow steady progress.  His lungs are  improving and he is now getting assisted breathing rather than the  machine doing the breathing for him and the number of drains in his  lungs has been reduced as the fluid build up has reduced.  The surgery  to repair the bone damage didn't happen last week as planned due to a  small leak found in the pipe work around his heart.  It's nowhere near  as serious as the other leak he had and he won't need surgery for it but  it was enough to delay the bone work until later this week to give his  body a chance to recover.  He is still being heavily sedated although  there has been movement on all of his limbs (really good sign).  I'm  heading up with hazel to see him tomorrow.

I'm sure a card would be appreciated once he wakes up.  I can PM someone the address.

TeaLeaf

Please do, PM it to me and we'll sort something.
